Worked as consultant for 5 years, left employer then applied at client year later and this happened

I worked for a consulting firm as a network engineer for this client for 4-5 years. Won’t disclose the client but they have around 100K employees so pretty big. My company got very greedy and lost the contract last year and client didn’t renew. This turned to massive lay offs and I was one of them. I worked for a consulting firm as a network engineer for this client for 4-5 years. Won’t disclose the client but they have around 100K employees so pretty big.

My company got very greedy and lost the contract last year and client didn’t renew. This turned to massive lay offs and I was one of them. I got offer pretty quick but couldn’t go to any past clients, competitors listed for 9 months.

Finally time was up, saw listing at this client and applied.

I was a lead on two of their cyber security applications, accomplished a lot over so felt like no problem getting interview.

Got email within week telling me I was basically inexperienced.

Forwarded this to couple people I knew in company and immediately got emails and calls from their hiring department.

Decided I no longer want to pursue this.

Considering my experience, knowing and understanding their systems I would be a very good candidate but got rejected. Once I followed up they went nuts trying to reach out.

Too little, too late.
