The rental situation is crazy. My experience when I need a repair is that 1- it's not fixed 2- it's fixed but they try to make me pay for it 3- it's fixed and then my rent is increased the next month (I have to pay for it and then some)
Microwave has never worked in the current house (it's a build in).
The AC has had some issues and not all the vents work consistently. (it's been temporarily fixed before)
My energy bill has never been less than 300 per month but has been 750 for the last 3!
So I go in the attic (and did I mention the dishwasher doesn't work and they don't think that's a priority to resolve). So I go in the attic…. Because I can't look at the kitchen and my energy bill has left with nothing to do nothing with. I find wires running everywhere, thin insulation and I'm creeping and ducking to get to the AC checking vents along the way.
I find that the exhaust to the clothes dryer is not attached and has basically been blowing lint like a fountain everywhere (for year's?!?)
The ac ducts are not fully attached and I've been essentially cooling parts of the attic this whole time.
What do I do?
- If I do nothing I'm going to be roobed in energy cost but avoid the possibility of 2 and 3.
- If I call they could raise my rent (again.. even though they already ate my raise last year and this year with the last one)
- Or even worse the owner decides it's too expensive and sells the house and kicks use out with 60 days notice (already lived through this during xmas in 2020 mid pandemic with 4 children and a baby on the way) oh and we become homeless this time because who could come up with a deposit again after barely recovering from the last one.
