I work at bar downtown and we had a kitchen staff meeting at 12pm. I wanted to relax the night before with an edible and unfortunately it followed me to the next day and I couldn’t focus with a mind numbing headache. As lead line cook I helped pick up pizza for the meeting and give my thoughts on it. Instead of clocking off and coming back at 3pm, i decided to stay and help out because i have already been there for an hour. The happy hour service was steady and then it turned into dinner service and I had no chance to stop cooking and prep stuff we were running out of. The kitchen manager had to leave early and finally my closer showed up. The entire night I’m trying to cook orders, prep food, and wash dishes. The front of house was no help with running the dishwasher and constanly left dirty dishes and trash in the dishpit for us. Finally it slowed down but it was 11:30 and the place was a mess. Despite being tired and mentally exhausted, i stayed and helped the closer clean up and help close. I finally clocked out at 1am, tired and frustated, and went home. At one point I think I yelled “who do ‘I’ call for help if everyone else went home?!” Funny enough the anger i had healed my headache and I was full of adrenaline.
TL;DR: I worked 12pm-1am and was mentally exhausted.
