I had the strangest day at work. My boss (he works at another location but was helping out for the day) asked me to clock out but continue working because the company can't afford over time.
I was supposed to leave at 6 pm but stayed till 7:30 (clocked out/unpaid) because there was so much left to do and I felt guilty leaving it for my co worker who works insane hours.
The company gives us around 163 budgeted hours but we usually go over the budgeted hours (180-185).
In order to save money he asked that I clock out but remain working. He thought that I would take 10 minutes to finish but he forgot that he made several requests that needed to be done. So instead of 10 minutes unpaid/clocked out, I did an hour and a half.
He wasn't too bothered by it because he's a manager on salary who doesn't get paid over time. If he goes over 40 he won't be paid for that extra time by the company. So he will usually clock out and finish whatever is left to do. He sometimes stays an extra hour or two without pay. He said he's “used to it”. He isn't bothered by it because “he's on salary”. But again, .management doesn't get over time at this company.
I've had a few part time jobs throughout undergrad but this particular job with this company has been the strangest.
