Recently I read something that describes what really goes behind the success of somebody. Which is often different to the advise we are flippantly told such as just work harder I wonder what do people think about this? For those of us who came from circumstances where we were not afforded the below described opportunities how can we increase our chances is there a way to increase our chances? or are we merely resigned to remain in our social ranking forever?
“Success is not a random act It arises out of a Predictable and powerful set of opportunities and circumstances.
The self-made man is a myth What truly lies behind the success of the best people in their field… Which is often a series of lucky events, Rare opportunities And other external factors which are out of their control
It is those who are successful Who are most likely to be given special opportunities That lead to further success. Success Is the result of what sociologists like to call “Accumulative advantage”.
People don’t rise from nothing. We do owe something to our parentage And patronage. The people who stand before Kings may look like they did it themselves. But in fact They are invariably the beneficiaries of Hidden advantages And extraordinary opportunities And cultural legacies That allow them to learn and work hard And make sense of the world in a way others cannot”
