Would you be offended or am I overreacting?

[Small rant] My workplaces holidays and celebrations for the end of the year. Feels a bit like a copout to get more work done even though previous years, we had that time off. Those dates for possibly coming back are not on public holidays in Australia so no special rates. Furthermore, essentially punishing those not going to the party. I’m personally not going due to family commitments that evening although I have a feeling I’ll be setting it up bc I’m an apprentice. The company makes my yearly wage in a day so it’s not like they couldn’t give us more time off or not need to have people come back during those dates. Also the celebrations are literally in the nice section of the workshop so no external venue such as a restaurant or a function room. How would you react if this was at your workplace? I feel…
