We have a daily UPS pickup where I work. My boss handed me a very important package and I said it will go out with today's pickup. His response was “well if they don't show up are you willing to eat the cost of this late shipment”. As in “If another company fucks up, I will dock your pay for the value of this thing, now get down to the UPS store so this thing can sit in another pile for a while until a driver picks it up, instead of our pile” Ugh.
