I'll keep this relatively short because I'm on mobile.
I've been at my firm for 3 years and my job is to basically make sure we make enough money. I am very good at my job. I would estimate I have generated revenue through efficiencies in the millions over the last 3 years.
A manager on the same level as me decided to hand in his notice and so I suggested to the company that his team merge with mine and I'll take over managing both roles. It would be a great opportunity for me, and it would save the company a good chunk of money each year as I was happy to take less than the full amount of both salaries.
Here's where it gets interesting. HR have decided that they totally agree that merging the roles would be efficient, and that I would be great for the job. I told them that my salary expectation, in line with national standards, is £60K. I've now found out through sources within the firm that they are going to offer me £45K, and that if I don't accept that salary then they will put the job to market and sack me.
Hahahaha! Fucking brilliant. You can't make this shit up.
Here's the thing though. I have written a large number or reports and pieces of script that automate huge parts of my current job because no human being could do them and still do things like sleep or eat. It's just too time consuming. You can bet your ass all of those scripts are going bye bye if they try anything like this. Not only that, but I've written a separate piece of code that will run automatically at the end of 2 weeks from now that will fire off an email to everyone in the firm explaining the situation and letting them know to be careful because that's how they treat their employees.
Oh, also, they don't know that I'm union and my union is already on standby to jump in when I need them. Lol. That's going to be a kick in the dick for the company.
Now, you might be asking 'why not just accept the salary they offer and save yourself all the trouble?' My answer to that would be 'fuck that'. I am not, and will never, undervalue my work especially when being threatened. To anyone out there in a similar position, do not back down, do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of, and when pushed…push back.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, you've been a wonderful audience. If anyone is interested, I will update on this sub as these dramas unfold.
