Y’all were right

I posted this A ways back, about how I was excited about Kroger, more specifically Fred Meyer, actually listening to me and working to help me out instead of shrugging me off. A lot of the comments consisted of “They're still gonna screw you, I'd look for something new anyway,” but I thought I knew better and disregarded those. Well, I hate to say it, but I was 100% wrong. I got transferred out of the deli, which was hard work with long days, over to curbside pickup. I didn't ask for the transfer, but I figured it wouldn't hurt. Boy was I wrong there too. I heard nothing about my promised raise after almost 2 months, so I asked HR, and she said she as working on it.

(Side note, idk if they did this on purpose, but HR is a 5 foot blonde lady and so I feel bad, as a 6'1″ male presenting person, getting frustrated with her.)

Six weeks pass with no word, so I ask my department manager if he's heard form her. He says he got an email that morning but hadn't had a chance to read it yet, and he'd get back to me when he did. He flags me down at the end of my shift to tell me that my raise was denied because “I'm not in a competitive position.”

Yup, the transfer I DIDN'T EVEN ASK FOR screwed me out of a promotion, although I figure she probably did that on purpose. The transfer also resulted in me getting my hours dropped from 35 a week to 12, which I haven't really been able to get by on, shocker.

So, yeah. Y'all were right, and I feel like a jackass now. I'm looking for new work, and in the meantime, I'm dropping my performance at Fred Meyer. I've busted my ass for ten months, but I'm not worth a raise? Cool, that job I've always finished in 20 minutes is gonna take an hour now. Either pay me what I'm worth and I'll pick it back up, or fire me and I'll collect unemployment while I look for something better.
