“you can just work self check” after possibly severely injuring my hand

I had an unexpected injury at home and accidentally stabbed my hand next to my knuckle joint, its been hard to move my finger and been painful on my entire hand from possible nerve damage. I informed my manager about this and said I would bring the corresponding doctors note and they just replied saying I still need to come in for my upcoming shifts (one of those being Christmas eve which I asked off because my family celebrates on that day and got denied) and they said that they would just put me on self check. Im seriously considering quitting right now effective immediately from the mixture of everything, its a basic cashier job in a small town and I don't have too much to lose plus Id like to spend Christmas with my family. I just wanted some second opinions on if and how I should approach quitting…

I just wanted some second opinions on if and how I should approach quitting because I'm quite shy and want to avoid the confrontation.
