I'm a teacher on a yearly contract. Due to medical reasons, I was skipping work somewhat regularly and my condition was worsening because I was always bending to help the kids, carrying heavy stuff etc. To make it clear, I have severe back injury with deformation of the medula and an autoimmune disease, that work together to give me chronic pain and loss of sensation on my hands and feet to a point where I can't walk or even grab a pen.
I figured the kids were being harmed because they were losing important subjects in class so I asked for medical leave and turned in a resignation letter. First response from the school: you can't quit this job, you can only keep yourself on medical leave until the end of the year. I prolonged my medical leave to give me time to sort this out. I talked to the ministry that rules education and they said I can absolutely quit. I sent in an unilateral resignation through the ministry and I'm waiting for it to be sorted out.
Meanwhile I'm still on medical leave. Some days ago the principal called me, asking me to submit the midterm evaluations. I did and later on found out it's illegal to work while on medical leave and that is considered working.
Now they are asking me to be there for the evaluation meetings. I won't and there will be a shitstorm about it. Bracing myself…
