At one of my old work places there was a guy who had worked there for 10 years. Instead of commemorating this milestone he was given a cheap looking certificate for never having a day off sick. I know for a fact he was crazy hard working and most of the projects depended on him. He never got a promotion and pay rises were a percentage of inflation. He was actually quite proud of this, but all I felt was sorry for him, especially since the sick day policy was extremely generous
