You make a dime…

I'm a subcontractor, employed via a 3rd party. The company I'm contracted to gets their pound of flesh out me for sure. I have to submit my wage bill through the 3rd party, who then pays me out their pocket and bills the company later. Let's just say it's a long convoluted way of making sure I don't get sick pay, pension or holiday pay in a country where they are legal requirements. Saving all concerned a lot of cash at my expense. So the cost of living is eye-watering just now, as you know. I asked the 3rd party for a bellow inflation pay raise, they said things were just too tight, but… I could work more overtime!

I submitted my overtime bill to him, he paid. The Company Manager exploded at me! Said “No more overtime, you're too expensive!” Now my overtime bill was fairly modest. So I pointed out how much I was saving the company with a few hours extra work? What I didn't know.

The wage bill submitted by the 3rd party is X4.5 what I billed for. For every £100 I earn, the 3rd party earns £350, for quite literally sending an invoice. So the more overtime I do, the more they receive, by quite a large difference. So now no payrise, and, no overtime!

Fuck me dead! Ragin'!

I've never been a subcontractor before. Is this normal?
