That's what my partner's boss said to him when he asked for a well deserved raise. He's been working with a small company as an electrician for almost a year. They have had him train other employees, oversee projects, manage materials, all these above his paygrade of… $18 an hour. He is supposed to be a full time employee, they send him home early it seems to ensure he doesn't get his full 40hrs. All Americans know its getting harder and harder to get buy. We have two children, which makes it even more difficult. Of course the owner of this small company knows all of this. But when my partner came in today to ask for a raise he turned him down and instead suggested my partner pick up some “side work”. I thought working full time was supposed to be all we needed to support ourselves? Isn't that why it's called full time? This is a company that has been receiving more and more business with bigger and bigger projects over the last few months, it's not as if they can't afford it! It's downright humiliating to have to go and beg for a living wage when you are already working full time. My partner boss, the owner of the company outright told my partner he doesn't give a fuck about his employees with just a few simple words. This is a company that does not offer any benefits, no paid vacation, my partner has to work the day before an after holidays, even Christmas Eve! When he told me this I got so mad I could've spit in his boss's face. I got so mad I told him to quit and that we would figure it out! He deserves to be treated like a human being! But of course my partner can't quit his job. He had to go in and work for this man today after that humiliating experience. I don't know exactly what the point of this post was… Just needed to rant I guess. Work culture here is despicable and dehumanizing. If anybody knows anyone hiring Electricians in Georgia, America feel free to let me know because I HATE my partner working for this company, it's negatively effecting his mental health and our home life.
