In late 2016/2017 I was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety. Over the years, with the help of medication and therapy, I have learned how to live with it and my anxiety attacks have gone down. This morning I called out of work because I had a rare really bad attack due to the fact that today is the first day my work is not requiring workers to wear masks (Amazon Fresh in Orange County). My shift started at 6 am and I was lying awake in bed at 4:30 am, stressing out about calling out because policy states you have to do so 2 hours before your shift. This only made my anxiety worse and another half an hour went by before I finally decided that it wasn’t worth it and called the manager on duty. I know I’m not required to give a reason but because it wasn’t 2 hours before I felt I needed some reason so I said food poisoning. He then reiterated the policy about calling 2 hours ahead of time and said we would talk on our next shift. I’m sure it’ll just be a slap on the wrist (I’ve never broken policy before) but it upsets me that these companies care more about policies than people.
