I accepted a job back in May 2022, with a company that was a bridge job for me at the time. With this offer, I agreed to move by the fall to a city 2 hours away. That was fine at the time. As I would have several locations under my direction, when I was hired, one location was being built. Since then, only the one has completed, with the other 12 spread out over the next 12-24 months. 3 weeks ago my boss asks me when I’m moving….I was taken aback a little, as the first location wasn’t even open. I manage multi locations, each location has an hierarchy of managers and assistants and such. I hadn’t taken the first step to move. So I told my boss, that I would speak to family and such and see what’s the best play. We never spoke of it again.

Yesterday, I get a call from my boss and HR, simply put, I have 10 days to move 2 hours away, at least me or that’s it. I don’t have funds, I don’t have the bandwidth with a new baby, and 3 step kids.

I’m not saying I’m not partly responsible. But what’s my play here?
