I am extremely frustrated and angered by the recent developments during my closing shift. Today, my manager, who coincidentally happens to be the owner's sister, informed me that our new employee will be running the other location in a different city. Consequently, I am now expected to work five 12+ hour shifts per week. To add insult to injury, at the end of August, I am required to work 10 consecutive days, each lasting 12+ hours because the entire family is going on a cruise.
Considering my current hourly wage of $16, it is overwhelming to be tasked with managing the location for a week and a half. Additionally, I had a disagreement with my superiors about the budget for microfiber towels for the glass displays. They perceive me as unprofessional when the cash drawer is off, despite it only occurring on the days when I'm not responsible for opening and closing. Bulk microfiber towels cost a mere $30, which I believe are crucial for maintaining the displays appropriately. Kinda ironic, but okay.
Although overtime pay may seem appealing, I am concerned that the increased taxes on my paycheck will outweigh the benefits. It is disheartening to be in a situation that feels like a surreal nightmare.
I am currently looking for new jobs.
