16$ an hour with a college degree

Hello everyone I just wanted to see if I could get some opinions on my situation. I graduated college this past May with a degree in business administration and have been applying for jobs in a fairly small city and recently got a offer for 16.50 an hour within a fairly large credit union in the Midwest. The position itself does not require a college degree. It has excellent benefits but is paying 16.50 an hour and I feel like this is a pretty lowball offer. I’m planning on calling in the next day or so to ask that given that I have a higher degree and some work experience as well as the current economic climate, if I would be able to start at maybe 17.50 or 18.50 an hour as opposed to the 16.50 they initially offered me. Do people think this is asking too much I just feel like with a higher degree in a higher amount of business knowledge that I should become compensated at a higher level. Again I could completely be in the wrong in this but I guess I just thought that having a college degree I would be starting off at a bit higher pay, it also frustrates me that the local McDonald’s is hiring crunchy for 15.50 an hour as well as other fast food restaurants hiring for the same amount of pay or more in my area.
