2-week notice

I have been working as a nurse for a year for an outpatient infusion centerI believe that I have a strong work ethic and my patients love me. Management is a different story. I am opinionated and tell them exactly how I feel about issues. Today, I was expecting a call from HR about a new position. I left my phone at home because I was trying to get my 10 month old daughter to my mother-in-laws. I went to work and helped my coworkers get some of their patients settled. Today, I was expecting a call from HR about a new position. I left my phone at home because I was trying to get my 10 month old daughter to my mother-in-laws. I went to work and helped my coworkers get some of their patients settled. I didn’t have any of my own patients coming for another 30mins, so I clocked out at 9am on my lunch break to go back home to get my phone.

Luckily once I retrieved my phone HR had already called to offer me the new job. I happily accepted and returned back to work after 28mins. My boss pulled me into her office and told me that I wasn’t allowed to leave the building without telling management. I was dumbfounded and we never had to tell a supervisor about us going on break before. I even had a coworker on the lookout incase my patient showed up early. I handed her my two week notice and she told me that today could just be my last day..

I didn’t know they could reject my two weeks and still let me go on “good terms.” I’m upset that I wasn’t able to tell any of my patients or even fellow coworkers goodbye. Also it leaves me talking to the unemployment office trying to figure out how I’m going to make these next two weeks work. My new employer is trying to expedite the onboarding process to get me in sooner, but this overall experience has been depressing.
