Month: March 2022
Alongside other myriad of issues, I got ghosted by management when asking about funding for certificates I was told many times I can request and apply for. Manager replied to my first email asking the price and never getting back to me, or my supervisor after multiple attempts of contact in the 3 weeks. This broke the camels back for me, started applying on Wednesday, had 3 interviews Friday, and got a job offer on Friday from one of the companies! I am beyond excited and so happy about this. I needed to just share it with someone! Know your value guys!
Stop texting your bosses
I’m not sure why it is so hard to figure out on this sub. Stop texting them. You’re setting yourselves up for the situations that are constantly posted here. If you get a text or call during your time off, simply DO NOT answer or reply. Follow your normal work schedule and if it comes up when you get back to work, tell them that you don’t check your phone on your time off. I’ve been doing this for years and have had zero consequences from it. They do not own your time off. Set the expectation and stand up for yourselves.
I have worked as a tradesman in slightly different fields over the last 10 years. Welder, Metalworker, Industrial mechanic, construction etc. And i have never really hated my job, but i have allways felt that it took everything out of me, when i'd get home i'd allways be tired and depressed. If i had a whole weekend off i'd just sleep through saturday and then start functioning again on sunday. Working 8-10 hour days doesn't feel natural to me, its just enough to not feel like doing anything for the rest of the day, and too little to get anything done at work. Doing traveling jobs where you are working 12+hrs a day and just go grab a couple beers with your coworkers and go to bed in a hotel/ship cabin/whatever never bothered me as much. Even 300+ hours months, for a few months at a time goes fine, Not…
Unlimited PTO should be a thing
We should be able to take as many days off if we want for as long as we can without having to worry about loosing time off
I’ll start. (For context, this was at a children’s musical centre and I was only working part time outside of college classes) Texting and calling me at all hours of the day (most notably 11PM, when I was already asleep) to discuss last-minute changes to the kids’ scripts and class schedules. Trying to re-negotiate my salary and schedule me to teach full-time when the omicron wave forced classes to go online, claiming that I deserved to be ‘paid less’ and be ‘more available’ without commute time cutting in. Trying to schedule me to teach more physical classes during the omicron wave even on days I had college zoom lectures and claiming that other student teachers taught while they had their zoom lectures in the background, with kids running around everywhere in a tiny classroom. Attempting to pressure me to upgrade to a newer iPhone model or buy another iPhone so…
So basically worked at a landscaping co. 6 yrs and was the best worker they had. Showed up every day did a INSANE amount of work every wk wk in wk out. Dealt with all sorts of BS but still did my job and never bitched. I was paid same salary every wk, got paid wk vacation n 5 sick days , which was 2 wks vacation at first then changed. I was always paid cash or on the books never the bullshit they do. Which I knew from the start but needed the job and one good thing was it being yr round so got paid for like 6-8 wks off in winter but if snow was on call and got paid no more. Worked 50hrs a WK on avg sometimes more but usually never less than 45. I like every one there was claimed as a “independent contractor”…
There have been a lot of reddits complaining and talking shitty about their bosses and workplaces, so today I just you to mention the best places that you have worked and treated with dignity and humanity, I just wanna see something
The job is fine, I don’t mind it and I like my boss. Today I have woken up with a terrible migraine, and I can’t work like this all day. I’ve had a lot of shitty bosses in the past and it’s made me afraid to have to call in to work. Any advice on how to approach this?
