Let’s bring some positive vibes

I've been thinking about making this post for awhile now and finally got around to doing it. So with the rampant negativity going on (there have been wins such as Chris's Amazon Union win) I would like to bring some positivity. Don't name drop or make it obvious, but mention something that has happened to you recently or in years past that gave you hope when you were in a tough position, or needed someone to give a helpful hand. While we see the negative of these power-hungry, narcissistic bosses, let's show that there are bosses that care, let others know that there are times when a company/supervisor/etc genuinely cares. I'll start first. When COVID first hit, I worked for a company that is now meme stock, and my boss at the time was a badass dude. While store managers and assistants were given a month of leave, us “not…

Should you lie on your CV? How to get paid more.

In your past company, the colleagues around you did some pretty interesting work. Maybe they repurposed some old tool to do a new thing, and you are impressed by this. You are so impressed that you ask your colleagues how it was done, and you learn how it works. Do you list this on your CV as something you built? Let's recap: You didn't build it. You didn't maintain it. You know it's impressive so you know just enough about it that you might be able to build it yourself if given the opportunity. Do you list this on your CV as something you built? I'll let you answer that. The answer is yes, by the way. Here are two main reasons: You are now on the hook for being as good as you say you are. You are now advancing at the speed of how fast you can observe,…

There’s no way people actually meet most job qualifications

The amount of qualifications one has to meet to get any work above base level is absolutely horrendous. I know this subject may have been discussed before (new member here), but I'm browsing postings in an area I want to move to in a few years to get a feel of the market there, and I'm so irritated. Even entry level positions require so many hoops to jump through when they're supposed to be bottom level, teach-me-how-to-do-everything, positions. I'm having a hard time actually believing company's are hiring people that actually meet what supposedly is required; or if they are even hiring people at all. Nearly every professional gig is requiring MA's now along with 5 to 7 years of relative job experience, plus certifications, and a partridge in a pear tree. Are company's actually hiring people that meet these standards?? Or is it just a ploy to appear as…

Corporate greed is CEO pay going up 11% from last year (with 1/3 receiving over a 25% increase), corporate profits up 25% (way beyond inflation) and stagnant wages leaving workers with 2.4% less buying power than last year.

The CEO pay went up an average of 11% (which when you are making millions, is very substantial) and for 1/3 of CEOs had a raise of 25% or above. Meanwhile, the average workers found an increase of 4.1%, which, with inflation is a 2.4% decrease in wages and spending power. On top of that, corporate profits were up 25%, which is far more than the rate of inflation at 7%. So basically, CEOs are raising the prices and causing average people to have less buying power all to line their own pockets. https://www.wsj.com/articles/ceo-pay-heads-for-record-as-pandemic-recedes-11649008102

Finally found my resignation letter

A few months ago I posted about my exit from VUMC back in 2019. Several had asked to see the letter and I finally stumbled upon a copy. This has been edited for clarity and personal identifiers. This letter caused several people including the director in question to be replaced. Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2019 9:59 AM To: F, JC Subject: Resignation JC, I've submitted my resignation to my manager, L G effective this Friday March 22nd. After 17 years as a Vanderbilt employee, I've reached the point that I can no longer continue in my position. One of the biggest issues I've had with Vanderbilt as a whole is hiring people for leadership roles who lack the necessary skills to effectively and productively manage people. When I first started working under C T, I had great respect for her as a leader. Over the years though, she's turned into…

Just got sent home . . .

For context I live in the UK, where I work part time in a chain restaurant. In the UK there are currently no longer any Covid restrictions in place and you have to buy your own tests. Last week I had been feeling pretty sick and run down, took a lateral flow test (LFT) on the Monday and Tuesday but both were negative. Then Wednesday's test came back positive . . . did another one just in case, which also came back positive. I contacted my work place to let them know I would definitely not be in for my shift the next day, as I felt like death, and to ask them to clarify what processes I needed to follow regarding statuary sick pay (SSP) and returning to work. Didn't hear back from them for over 24 hours and eventually had to chase them. The gist of their response…

Time to boycott Applebee’s <3

Applebee's executive states that high gas prices are good for business because it makes people more willing to accept lower wages out of desperation. Link to vid: https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPduwKEc5/

Anyone heard the mega cringe “get back to the office” podcast ads… (U.K.)

They are seriously cringe & the reasons they have for getting back to the office are tenuous at best. “I’m a work from homing pigeon” like come on fuck off! I work in a factory so it’s not really any of my business. But if I did work in an office, these adverts would make me dig my heals in. Also, the fact that they are podcast ads surely means they are reaching people who have the freedom to listen to podcasts.
