Worked at a cafe franchise for over a year until just this afternoon. Had a meeting with my store manager and was informed that they’ve decided to let me go. The reason? I accidentally picked up a shift a month or two ago and realized only too late that 1. It was a morning shift, and 2. It was actually at another cafe. This only happened once, yet they decided to do this to me. I feel devastated. Yes, it was partially my fault, but it was only one time! On one hand though, it feels good to be able to finally actually breathe a little and do something else. It still hurts though.

Best April Fools Joke Ever
The CEO of the engineering firm i work at made the best (worst) April Fools joke ever. This is a large few thousand employee organization. The joke was basically along the lines of: “hey everyone, we've made a decision to go back to the office full time, we'll see you folks after Easter.” At the end of the email it reads: for those not happy with this, check todays date. lol I admit I was too flustered to read till the end and fell for the prank. The email was pretty long with instructions on RTO processes so it looked real. Not gonna lie, if that were true I'd starting looking for a new job elsewhere.
Angry as hell
Probably the worst title. Sorry. Context: I work for company A who manages the food services for company B. This includes feeding patients and a cafe. I manage the cafe. I was promoted just over three months ago. For almost a month now company B has been talking layoffs to course correct C19 spending. Today I should be celebrating my amazing team reached the sales goal for the first time since we took over management in 19. I am so proud. This is about them. They are enthusiastic about their work and it shows in their service and food. We have cooks meetings, service meetings and talk about what we want to do. Its a real change in them since the last retail manager and chef left. I’m doing my best to manage them as adults with pride in their work(chef did not) and with valuable input to provide. Respect.…
Delusional CEO
A couple of weeks ago. I applied for a position at a start-up company. The hiring manager interviewed me for one hour, told me the schedule is very flexible and they offer permanent WFH. He was relatable and very pleasant to talk with. I had a good feeling about it as he immediately scheduled the final interview with the CEO. That time came and I found out one of the probable reasons why people doesn't recommend working on start-up companies. A delusional CEO. He talked about changing the world and making it a better place, that I will be not only an employee but also a comrade in their journey to realise their mission, and other cringey stuff that you usually hear in shows or movies. The hiring manager was in the background and turned off his camera! I started sweating because I couldn't stand the awkwardness I was feeling.…
I have applied to 100s of jobs in the past few months, I had one briefly that did not work out (company was basically going under) and have had only a few interviews besides that that went nowhere. I have met with a specialist that helps you with your resume and with interviewing, and paid $$$ for resume review and LinkedIn optimization. (I have a college degree from a top college, relevant experience, and also have nothing on my background check that is a red flag, btw) has anyone else experienced this? I have no idea what else to try. I have a disability so I can't do *any* job under the sun but I can do a good amount, and I have gotten almost nowhere with the jobs I applied for- design, marketing, serving/hosting/cafe jobs, occasional science jobs bc my old career and degree were in science
Was anyone else taught this?
I'm almost 30, and I was thinking back on my first impression of jobs. I remembered something from when I was in school (like when I was about 14 or so), about what it was about and “proper etiquette” for the workforce. The thing that stuck out to me the most was, “Don't ever quit or get fired from a job, because you will be unable to find better work or better pay. They will know you were fired, and you will have it follow you for the rest of your life. You will never advance, and it will be a black stain on your resume.” I believed this for so long when I was younger, and when I got my first official job at 18, I was mortified when the company let me go on my first day. (It was a local candy company that had shit for training,…
One of my managers was stressed out today. It's cool, it happens, I can ignore her roughly moving around boxes for a bit. Well, she snaps at one of my co-workers to help her out by unwrapping some of the inventory for her. Sure thing, co-worker says, and starts unwrapping items and placing them in trays. Five minutes later, manager comes over, doesn't say a single word, and dumps out the entire tray co-worker was working on. It's THEN that she says, “it's easier for me to put away if they're not in the trays.” Honest to God, how do these people act like this and get through life? I'm five seconds away from breaking eight of the ten commandments, I swear.

Interesting job requirements
Saw a listing I was interested in but my vibe died after reading this “requirement” Excellent written communication skills, and the ability to connect with customers while off-shift (via cell phone or computer)
