My first time calling in. I’m just very tired. I needed a break, no one wanted the shift so I called in saying I wasn’t feeling well. But I’ve got to go to the clinic for an excuse in order for it to not “count against me”? What do I go in saying I have? I don’t want anything complicated, no prescriptions or prolonged treatment. What are y’all’s ideas?

I have spend the last 2 months interviewing for my dream job at a large, respected company (but a very specific role, and there are only 2 companies that do this). The reason it took so long is they would average 2 weeks between interviews, usually with no communication whatsoever on their part (I always sent follow up emails a few days after each interview thanking them for their time as a courtesy). When they finally got back to me, they would ask for immediate action on my part, in one case requesting to interview me again just 4 hours later. Finally, after another two week stretch of silence, they say I haven’t been selected. The guy was nice and said he would talk with me over the phone to explain exactly why, which I though was cool since most companies wouldn’t do that. But I sent back my availability…

Went to my new manager and proposed a title change that more accurately reflects the role that I'm doing in my current position (and would help me when searching for jobs in the future, my current title is very entry level and not reflective at all of what I'm doing), as well as 5 extra vacation days. Said he'd think about it and discuss it with the C-suite who oversees our department (even though he looked and sounded completely against it). Came back and said the title change was rejected because our department is “heading in a different direction” and that they won't increase my vacation days because of “company policy”. Now I'm going back and using a medical reason (I have 100% proof for) to go full time WFH and working on my business and doing absolutely minimal work till I get fired.

If everyone who believes in a just and compassionate society did, we would have a more just, and more compasionate society. They won’t make it easy.
