Month: April 2022
I have multiple physical and mental health disabilities and I have been on leave for 6 months recovering. As part of my discussion to return to work, I submitted an ADA request for a 4/10 schedule so I can have a day for medical appointments as well as to just sleep and recover from my physical issues. My company already has alternate work schedules available for everyone to request, and this is one of them. I requested the schedule from HR and they immediately turned around with “no, your manager determined an 8am – 5pm schedule is absolutely necessary – they may be willing to allow you to start/end one hour later or one hour earlier (7-4 or 9-6). Considering the fact that the department already has flex start/end times, and most people are at their desks from 7:30 – 3:00, this is basically a non-response at best, and also…

why not tax incentivize Pay increases?
I'm not an economist in any sense of the word so this might actually be a dumb fucking idea but why not give businesses an incentive to pay their employees more, to a degree. Obviously not to an absurd amount but say you give your an employees a 2.5% pay increase and in return be granted a 5% tax credit. Netting the business 2.5% in return? I don't know maybe this is a terrible idea but just a shower thought.
It’s insane honestly. You don’t like something someone said or did so you tell their ‘master’ hoping they will lose their livelihood. Losing a job today because of a social justice warrior has the potential to ruin your life. Imagine ruining someone’s life over 140 characters on the internet. One mistake and you can literally lose everything in a matter of days. It’s disgusting how much of a hold corporations have on us that people complaining about your social life can lead to isolation and homelessness
My boss is adding new duties without pay
I work at a produce supply company and was hired for the office. My job description when I was hired was just filing paperwork and taking calls. Generally people call pretty often, though we have busier hours than others, and being away from the desk for any amount of time makes us miss calls and puts us behind on paperwork.Today they told us that our coworker is now a supervisor and that he will be delegating extra physical tasks to us, like weighing food, stocking shelves, cleaning the shop etc. Before this, he had tried to make me do these sort of tasks which I would respond with “I don't get paid to do that” or “that's not my job”. They're not giving us any extra pay for these duties or any choice, and just act like we should be OK with it. I don't want to quit, because they…
Ok no offense but some of y’all need to understand that reform in the work place won’t do shit. Reform in general will never and never has worked because you can’t fix an oppressive system. The only to stop an oppressive system (capitalism, police, ect) is to abolish it. How do we reach this u might ask? Socialism. Ik u guys think raising wages will do smth but no, it will always return to this. Instead we need people running the means of production. The workers should be choosing their wages/ conditions, and no one to be in charge of it except themselves. Not to mention, work should only cater to the needs of the people. We have a lot of unnecessary jobs and roles in our society and we also still benefit from imperialism. The only way to solve this is through socialism. It would also so our overconsumption…
work-free project
My deepest desire is to stop working altogether. I've felt this way since my first day at my first job. The whole thing feels like a goddamn scam. So I'm thinking… Perhaps we can start a thread on low cost of living, minimalist lifestyle, forms of passive income if you have some equity, where to live and what to do after you reclaim your time.
My sister and three other people in her position have tried for months, to no avail, to be paid better for the work they do. After not being taken seriously, they all accepted job offers elsewhere for $6/hr more an hour ($32/hr vs $26/hr). They are the ones who handle a region (half a state), so if they were to all leave at the same time, it would cripple the company's ability to operate. The job they do continuously is at the top of performance and profit charts for the whole company that operates across the US and Canada. Anyway, after they all sent out their notices, the bosses are obviously realizing they're fucked. Only now are they offering to match the other company's offer as well as hiring bonus. My sister has been with the same company for over 15 years and claims she likes what she does but…
