Private equity firms are destroying America. Feel free to read this first A snippet. “Private equity firms have rigged the system to create a “heads I win, tails you lose” situation. These executives can gain control of companies while risking nearly none of their own money, use a multitude of tactics to extract money from those companies, and then leave workers and communities saddled with the losses and devastated if those companies fail or are downsized.” Private equity firms are destroying America.
Last year I was working at a electronic repair shop, I was our advanced repair technician, since I can do almost every single repair including those that require microsoldering. The pay was $15/hr, and I was driving 1 hour each way to get to and from work. I stayed because the owners were good people who looked out for us, even gave us holiday bonuses and time off when we needed it. But around winter, buisness was slowing down, and the store wasn't meeting the goals it needed to stay open. So the owners decided to sell the store back to the bloke they had purchased it from. Both my coworker and I had worked for this dude before, and he was a complete asshole, always cutting hours and demanding impossible things. So when we got the news, we both decided the only way we were going to stay was…
After being laid off from 2 jobs as a student and putting my degree on hold due to poor mental health, I've been struggling a lot with money. Last summer I took a shitty job at a local Dunkin Donuts for $13.25. The hours were shitty, they disrespected my availability and the words “full-time”, and I was overworked. I was nervous about quitting due to having just been out of a job for a while and not seeing better paying positions but I took a chance and started looking and applying intensely for a few weeks. I got a better offer @$16/hr in a dining services position and quit that week with no notice after I got hired. After 6 months I was once again overworked (working 45-50 hours now) and frustrated with the lack of support from management and I gave my notice a few weeks ago. Today I…

Read through a bunch of stories on here and thought I would share my own from a few years ago. I used to be a call centre manager for a small company, I was promoted along with a colleague. He ended up getting a new job after a few months and so I managed it solo for a year. After the 1 year was up, I asked for a raise as I was doing the job of 2 and was told it was not in the budget, this was despite my colleague being planned to be around for the full time and moving forward. I was only offered maybe an extra $100 a month. I went out that evening and applied to one job. I didn't have a ton of confidence in myself and thought I wasn't as capable as I really am. The one job got back to me.…
A specific warehouse was hosting a hiring event today. I’ve worked for this warehouse before at a different location as a contracted employee. Came in for the open interviews and filled out some papers on basic info and work experience, shift preference as well. They then informed me that they didn’t actually have any “non equipment” positions available but the warehouse down the street did and they payed $15. If you’re hiring forklift operators at $18.50 and other positions for $15, your day age is not “$18.50 and up”
Boss doesn’t want wages discussed
Small rant I guess. Just got called into the backroom at work (men's wearhouse) so my boss could tell me”You are at $14 now but I can't have you asking others what they make because it makes a tense environment. Especially for an 18yo with this as his first job” I DO NOT CARE. That sounds like a him problem. I'm gonna ask because I'm not going to be making less then the new guy. I don't give a damn that it's his first job. Wages should be a thing that is talked about. I hate this place. Isn't it illegal to ask people not to discuss wages?
I am now a 38 year old man with a halfway decent job and a home. The problem is I had to serve in the military just so I could afford to go to college and get a degree for the field that I am in. I have seen horrible things that I hope no one ever sees. Why is that the only way I could be in the position I am in? The thing is I make a livable wage. I have just enough for food, mortgage, car payment, and student loan debt. Why is this so hard? I can’t even imagine what it is like for those working under what I am. I am doing ok, but why is it that I feel like every time I make one step forward, this society is pushing me 2 steps back. Once again, the fact that there are millions out…
