I’m from Melbourne, Australia and I work at a Trucking Depot. This past Tuesday, my workaholic boomer manager rocks up to work with COVID knowing he had it and decided he wanted to sit in his car on his phone doing work-related stuff like answering e-mails and calling up other coworkers telling them what needed to be done etc. – which is obviously ridiculous because he could’ve done all that from home. 2 co-workers told me what he was doing; And I decide to report him. I saw him on two occasions get out of his car to 1) go to the men’s toilet, which is inside the warehouse right next to the lunchroom and 2) get out of his car to speak to our shift supervisor. McDonalds is interviewing teenagers today and it’s fine until they tell you to do something. The ‘something’ is to go on their website and apply. What did I come across? “Please drop in your resume, enter past experience and interests in the company.” No one told me anything about a resume and past experience. We’re teenagers, it’s not like we had a job at fucking kindergarten.

Holy Fuck. Idk the company or any other details, but what I did see was the ending where the Boss is supposed to have a super real epiphany that he or she has been fucking over their employees this entire time! Oh my! This motherfucker said to his employee something like, “It’s amazing that you’ve been working all of these extra hours doing other people’s jobs. What I’d like to do is put you on salary. And now you’ll be bonus eligible.” Like this is some kind of fucking good deal? “No more overtime for you bitch! I said bonus eligible! I didn’t say I’d give you one! And also, you’re welcome!” And she cried bc it’s all fake and acted happy. I bet she quit within a month. I actually used to like the show before I saw the bullshit. The work culture brainwashing runs deeeep.

Ya'll won the battle, but lost the war. Many fast food companies are starting to implement robotics programs from Japan. This is the next step. I get notices every day and Panera of all places is one of the first companies to do this. Anyway, it was a valiant effort, but to have a lasting effect the Federal and/or State minimum wage rates need to be increased. What can we do on this front to keep the momentum going?

If he does I’m not coming in because I have him a two week notice, but is there a way to go about it that won’t escalate? I’m very passive and hate confrontation/arguing simply because I just don’t care to but I just want to go about it in a way that won’t make me uncomfortable

ok so I've been in the misery hole along with everyone else all day but i have a 2 birds one stone proposition. A lot of schools are probably going to start seeing young people walking out to protest and a lot of marches are going to take place. A lot of people want to help with said protests/etc but feel powerless because they have to go to work . there might be something we can all do together? If you work in food service for a shit giant corp that is underpaying you what would happen if you just kept cooking but instead of for customers, for the kids and everyone protesting? Just make tons of food and deliver it to people in need? people outside marching? anyone who's hungry? I don't understand, I don't understand why I still work. I know I “need” money to survive but for fucks sake this country (USA) is literally just draining everything we can for some rich assholes to waste money on dumb shit. And the “benefits” people get at these jobs is insane. We know that dental health is directly connected to heart health yet dental health is an option (and it's expensive). Amoungst all the other trash you hear. Insurance companies go fuck yourself. There's genetic testing that can help identify what you may get in life, no one wants it though cause the insurance will charge you for this knowledge. I am in need of a new job and i'm thinking of Lowes or Home Depot. I don't want to work for a corporation but small business' wages don't really cut it. Which company is better?

I work at a job that requires us to go to an office but also go “into the field” in a town 45 mins away for meetings usually once or twice a week but sometimes up to three or four. We also get to work from home two days a week. When we work from the office we get paid for our drive into the field per US law. However, when I started working from home two days a week I was told I don’t get paid if I drive from my house while working from home into the field even if it’s the middle of the work day as most of the meetings are.
