Should I get into the job market? If not, what would I do? Any other answers to the title question also welcome.
So I’ve only been working at this place for 3 days and I absolutely despise it compared to my old job. I’ve already contacted my previous employer and they gave me back my job on the spot. It is a very lax job and fits much better with my lifestyle. Is it okay if I call in and resign on a day that I have to work on and just never go back? Tomorrow I’m supposed to go in at 12 pm for a shift is it okay if I just quit before the shift starts? Also does it have to be a call? Could I send a text or email instead? I feel pretty guilty for the short notice but I just don’t want to have to stay there any longer. Besides my previous employer is having me start pretty soon. Any advice or encouragement is appreciated.
How many of you are in trade unions?
If there's one thing everyone here agrees on, it's the need for class solidarity and better conditions. There are a lot of posts about unionization, which is awesome to see. I joined the local carpenters union in 2019, and many trade unions really are having trouble finding people to work, despite good pay and benefits. In my apprentice class there were 120-some to start, and 43 failed the drug test, which we had a month's notice of. My specific class of 12 was down to 7 after six months. I was in Mill/Cabinet, so 1st year apprentice was $19/hour + health, pension, 401k. Journeymen made about double, total package at over $50/hour. But the thing is, I encountered a lot of racism, anti-union sentiment, and overall hardcore conservatism in the shops I worked at. Nobody in any part of leadership spoke Spanish. They literally could not bring people in fast…
I’m so pissed at this right now . Figure better to rant here , then get drunk and have a massive hangover . I do Doordash , Instacart etc to provide for my children and myself . Tonight , I had someone place an order for a 45 dollar pizza thing from Pizza Hut with a 3 dollar tip on a 5 mile trip . I took it as I’m not picky about that stuff . When I arrived at the guy’s house . It smelled like someone took a shit and let it sit for a year . He answered the door and took the pizzas from me . Then the interaction goes something like this Shit guy : You know a pretty girl like you shouldn’t be working Me : I have kids to provide for sir SG : Then maybe you should get a real job .…
Just wanna say thank you guys for having this subreddit. The many times I complained about public accounting and having to work 60 hours per week (even from home) got me downvoted to oblivion. It seems like it's a crime to say that as an accountant working 60 hours per week is unfair. I really don't care if it's busy season or not. If you really want to, sure. But then that's your personal choice. But to say, “you chose this field” or “that's the nature of the beast” is quite ridiculous to me. I think it's super unhealthy honestly. But yeah, I mostly posted this because I would get downvoted by others for sharing my opinion about working 60 hours per week. It's almost as if it's a crime to sacrifice salary for less hours. I sure as hell barely want to work 40 hours a week, much less…
Just 11 days ago put up a post on this sub that sounded too heinous to be believed: Federal Reserve tells business owners to unite against the workers and impose a hiring freeze in order to lower wages because workers being paid a living wage is causing inflation. Threatens higher interest rates to lower stock prices to force business owners to comply (and be off the hook). Well, 3 news articles in the business press today, May 23, 2022, should remove all doubt that there's a large-scale effort underway to smash down workers' wages, and our business overlords get to use the Federal Reserve as the scapegoat for something they've wanted to do anyway. And there have been several other articles this month saying the same things. I'm posting some of these articles here. Check this out from May 8, with the author telling us straight-up that the Federal Reserve…
