My mom is actually a former union officer of the suburban school district where she worked. She has a pension and full healthcare coverage, courtesy of the union. She moved to a small rural lake town when she retired. About 10 years ago, she met and quickly married this guy who has never lived anywhere else, owned a small business in town, and is a racist conservative asshole. I met him once before they got married. Needless to say, I don't get along with him at all, and unfortunately, he's changed my mom. Soon after arriving at their house, he started talking about how “nobody wants to work” and the younger generation is all “lazy.” I told him I don't think they're lazy. So just to preface, I was in the military and got fucked up pretty good in the old brain case, so good old Uncle Sam cuts me a 2000$ check every month for my Veteran's disability. I live in California in a 2 bedroom apartment for 2200$ a month (not including utilities) by myself. I work full time in CNC and make fairly good money (still 7 dollars below the state average tho). In my area, I am doing amazing compared to my peers and friends, but only because I had to sacrifice my young adult years blowing up other young adults. That 2000$ is the only reason i'm able to live comfortably in the bay area.
