Have to vent a bit. Something I've noticed along the way. The higher up the totem pole, the more disconnected from the actual business you become. I think there's a certain point where upper managers need to keep out of the affairs of other departments. We recently had a department director waddle over to our area and attempt to make “sweeping changes” to our workflow. Apparently she'd gone to some kind of “leadership retreat/seminar and got her head all gassed up with brilliant ideas” These changes made everyone miserable, slowed down work, and lowered productivity. Yet, this woman from her ivory tower couldn't figure out why! I really think Managers should only manage 1 level below where they are. Once they start getting their noses too far down, they lose all sense and reason and have little idea of what's going on. We lucked out that we convinced this toxic…
