For years I heard capitalists claim that if we demanded higher wages or fair pay, that prices on everything else would follow. As if, the wealthy, have no choice but to raise prices. These prices feel like a punishment. Rent control needs to happen federally. ASAP.

pregnant and 48hr req?

My wife is a MHP in WA state and her facility just announced they would be implementing a compulsory 48hr work week, once per month. My wife is a trooper but is several months pregnant and working in a mentally taxing environment, is it even legal to require your employees to work 48hrs? Thanks!

How to warn people

throwaway account u I got hired a while ago at this shady ass company. for me it’s kind of ok. I mean it’s basically just over minimum wage but it’s not that different than anything else. fine. EXCEPT they hired me during some kinda hiring frenzy. Like just handing jobs out like they’re going out of style. Easy, like walk in, drug test background, basic license for the job or not even and you’re in. No problem. They told us theres this big new contracts and they need to hire hundreds of people tell your friends. So I did. I sent a lot of people over and they got “hired” some people quit old job bc this is more $ and they promised flexible full time shifts right? they fired like almost everyone they hired BEFORE THEY EVEN GOT ONE SHIFT. Somehow not me. They said THOSE contracts fell through…

coworker being forced out of job because she has to WFH

I don't even know where to begin to point her to see if there's any action she can take. We live in Indiana, the quarantine year helped her out since she could take care of her mother and WFH. Her mother's gotten worse and needs more constant care, but she can still confidently put in an 8 hr day. She even got greenlit to stay WFH. Our company founder even said that he wants to keep a hybrid office, but that apparently doesn't matter to our manager who has given her the ultimatum to return in by friday or else 'she'll be considered to have resigned' He said 'we've changed the function of this job enough that you must be in the office' So its nice to know the company founder was full of shit. Big surprise eh? Now I already told her, do not sign anything that they give…

What do you consider poverty level or near-poverty level take-home pay for a job requiring a four-year degree?

After taxes and excluding so-so health insurance, what would you consider to be poverty-level take-home pay or something close to it for a 40hrs/wk office job requiring a four-year degree? Just curious what others' thoughts are. I was thinking about what my previous employer (newspaper) paid its reporters and checked the AIER cost-of-living calculator to see what my former take-home pay would amount to today. Anyone who knows teachers get paid poorly ought to take a look at what newspaper reporters get. It's even worse from what I can tell.
