What does “being written up” mean?

I have seen the phrase “being written up in many posts (in this subreddit and in others) but I don’t understand what it means. I have worked in India and Sweden and neither country has this concept. I am not aware of any other country that has this also, except US (and maybe Canada, I am not really sure). Does your salary get deducted when you get written up? If this is not the right subreddit for this question, apologies and please delete.

company booked Air BNB for a 4 day work conference

I got an e-mail that my company has booked an Air BNB that sleeps 14 people. As if being stuck with your coworkers for 4 consecutive days isn't bad enough, most of the rooms are shared. We are majority female employees but there are going to be men staying in this house too. I feel like this would be an HR nightmare at any other company but we are a small company and they'll cut corners financially anywhere they can. My company didn't ask for references when I got hired on, so you know they probably did the same with everyone else. This company has issues but I work remotely and can deal with their quirks as a remote employee. We don't really have HR. What's the most un-fireable way I can approach this? Say I have a disability that is apparent outside of work hours and it would be…

Does this independent contractor agreement sound right?

I have been working fulltime online for almost a month as a teacher at a small private school that just launched an online campus. They have been very disorganized etc., and the other teachers and I have only now been presented with our work contracts. The pay is only 15 dollars an hour and the contract seems odd and maybe even hostile to me. It states that I am in independent contractor and that I won't be supervised, but on the addendum page it states that I will be supervised and that I will have to do whatever the principal assigns me to do, that I'll need to attend all weekend and after-hours meetings and fundraisers, etc. It doesn't specify the subject I teach, which makes me think they're trying to reserve the right to pile on a bunch of extra subjects if it suits them. The main thing that…

TFW you are being called out for being sick “Extremely often”

Recently I have been called out by multiple coworkers for being sick “extremely often”. In the past 1,5 years in the company I have been sick as follows: – 2 days fever / flu / whatever like a year ago – 2 weeks Covid – 2 days fever / fever / flu / whatever a week ago That's it. How is that “extremely often”, especially considering that there was Covid in the mix.

[SERIOUS] How do I recover from a burnout in 4 days?

My boss just approved my PTO request for Thurs and Fri so I have 4 days to myself before going back to work on Monday. My main goal for these 4 days is to recover from a burnout that's been accumulating for awhile. I've been making more mistakes at my job than before, and I started to notice that while I'm doing task A, I'm already thinking about task B which causes me to get distracted while doing task A and somehow pay attention less. For bg, I do AP, AR, a bit of payroll, and travel arrangements for our corporate office and all stations throughout the US. I love what I do and my boss is great but the many hats I wear has been causing my mental health to deteriorate which in turn affects my job performance. I haven't received criticism against my job performance but I want…

today marks my 48th first day on the job

That's right! Today is my 48th “first day on the job” ever. A big shoutout and thank you to Teenage Me, who truly didn't tolerate an iota of shit from his bosses. It means a lot to me that you sometimes just quit a job because you were bored… or it was raining outside… or you had finally finished that book of crossword puzzles. Next: My mom, who once told me, exasperated, that she didn't care if I quit my job as long as I had a new one ready before I quit. I didn't start actually doing that until my mid-20s, but it was a really nice thought. Also to Pizza Hut, Subway, and Applebee's, who apparently don't have sophisticated enough corporate HR equipment to flag a disaffected artistè before rehiring at a different location. You guys sniff hired me at least twice. The magic of quitting you never…

My supervisor messed up my pay and now hates me

For two weeks I didn’t get paid at all, it took such a big effort to fix and my parents had to step in on my behalf even. Finally it’s been fixed and now my supervisor hates me, she won’t talk to me unless absolutely necessary, and even then she talks at me instead of to me like an adult. At some point I hurt my wrist pretty good and all I wanted was to say I probably need help lifting heavier things but she didn’t even look at me and acted like I wasn’t there. My theory is she’s mad that we went well above her position to get paid what I was owed or got in trouble for dropping the ball that bad, which is deserved. I enjoy my job for the most part, but man, do immature, petty people ruin it for me. Can I make a…

Something that has been on my mind. I thought maybe I should share it here.

My mind is a mess right now because for entirely too long now, people like my mom have been heavy on my mind. People who have spent the bigger part of their lives killing themselves and wearing themselves down before their time with hard manual labor, for sht pay, at sht jobs that they hate, just so they can still struggle to pay a mortgage payment on a house that they don't even get to spend any time at or in, due to all the wage-slaving. And the icing on the sht cake iiiis…. THEY DON'T ACTUALLY EVEN WANT THE DAMN HOUSE. They especially don't want the 30 years of mortgage payments. They don't want most of the things they're working their lives away to pay for. But they don't know that they don't want the things. That's most people everywhere and of every age group though I suppose. It…
