That’s the time is takes for the machine I operate to earn enough profit to pay me. I work a large beverage company in a production facility. FORTY FIVE SECONDS. I work a 12 hour shift and my current pay rate is 23/hr. We are being robbed daily.

So, to start I am a University student. I worked in the army the past four years and just went back into studying English translation (I started before I joined). I am currently still being paid by the army (as is normal for any honorably discharged service member here in Germany). The duration of that pay depends on how long you served. In my case that was four years, for which I am now being paid an additional year. Since I have another 4 semesters ahead of me (another two years), I thought why not get a side job to get what I need financially, for my finals now and concentrate on my exams next year. There is currently a hurricane headed for my area in FL, and we could be receiving potentially a direct hit, a storm hasn’t hit here this bad in over 100 years. Instead of letting employees stay home to prep for the storm, we get an email yesterday saying that we will be “continuing business as usual until further notice”. The weather is supposed to start getting bad later today and have not heard anything. Nothing gets in the way of profit I guess, not even a hurricane.

The title is pretty self explanatory, last week I just got fired for talking to fast. To me it’s total bullshit. I’ve only worked there for 3 months, I recently finished college thought I found myself a good starter job and then this happens. Honestly just what the fuck is my life at this point.

At my company, every four years we get a new contract. Our negotiations begin next year and our local union representative has been making an effort to get things moving early this time around. She has asked us if there's anything to add that we want from these negotiations. What would be some good suggestions to make in our new contract? A few obvious things already mentioned are: 1. Higher wages. 2. Better medical coverage, specifically on pharmaceutical services. 3. Sick days being added.

I am glad my first college job taught me to be lazy – it keeps me super young. I have yet to stress or work a day in my life. I’m 24. I have always done school part time or less. Instead of taking out debt I did college class by class. I’ve legit never “been on my grind” and my looks and health show it. Don’t “be on your grind.” It’s better for your health. If you died, your work would replace you in a few days and move on with buisness as usual. Are you seriously going to give up your health to a job ? My rule is my life can’t be more than 50% “busy.” I relax every single day. At work I’m not busy. After doing maybe 2 hours of schoolwork a day MAX, I’m not busy. You should relax too.
