On that Simple Sabotage grindset
Working with a disability
Just wanted to rant about how frustrating it can be working with a disability. I have MS and no I don’t have the worst of it I admit. Just some really bad fatigue, vision issues, feeling rubbery etc. I just left a toxic work environment for a new job and today I got in “trouble” for sitting down while working. It makes zero difference if I was standing up or sitting down other than giving my back/neck a break. Just made me think what if I was having mobility issues today? I LOOK fine. You don’t know how I’m feeling. I’m already doing more than most people I know with MS. I’m lifting heavy shit. I’m a full time single parent. Going through a divorce. I broke every bone in my foot in a car accident and it hurts all day. Now I have to deal with dickhead co workers…
I also have to pay for the field work course that goes along with the internship. I hate it here. They really want to suck you dry. This field does the opposite of what social work ethics vouch for.
Free Time Is A Human Right.
I have been working full time for 5 years since 19, and have not had a single vacation. Part time since 15. I have pigeonholed myself into small company after small company — all of which do the bare legal minimum required by law.If they could legally enslave you by threat of physical harm, they would. Two ten minute breaks are not really to let you rest. They are allotted periods for catching your breath to make sure you don't collapse working demanding physical labor for 8 hours. A tired worker is less profitable. That's all. The 30 minute lunch is not for you. A: You packed a big lunch. Scarf it down so that you can maybe rest a few minutes.B: You packed a sandwich. Eat it so that you may actually rest. Hungry the rest of the 5 hours? Tough. Get back to work. What? You have the nerve…
What if you got a dozen or so applications, and each recruiter calls your references? By the time you need the reference the most like you are about to have an offer, your reference will be so annoyed with people calling him that they won't be giving references anymore. This can even make it impossible for you to get a job because your reference gets pissed off with so many recruiters calling him just to ask about you
I know this has been said
…but NO, I am not taking a 1 hour long “skills assessment” as part of the application.
