I am a seasonal labor worker. My company has new management this year. One of the new rules is they are going to withhold 10% of our wages every week and then pay it back at the end of the season. Their reasoning behind this is if we do the job incorrect and have to send someone to fix our job it will be deducted out of that 10%. This is in the state of Illinois. I was wondering is this legal?

I can not stand it when you're at a toxic workplace, have been there forever, and have been put through an endless amount of bullshit since day one. Then, someone else who has always been favored and had it 100X easier and is paid more begins complaining to you about the most trivial things and how they're tired of being there. When they have no idea what you and the rest of the people have been going through since starting, and act like people being mistreated is some new thing. Meanwhile these people have dragged their feet and acted like the weight of the world was on them and only them since day one, and were too self-centered to ever notice how anyone else was treated. I also can't stand the people who try to get others to leave by being like “Hey. I've seen some shit man” and want…
Friend needs help with being paid.
I have a friend who needs help and I'm not great with refraining from telling people to fuck off, which isn't what is needed right now. Basically, she's a freelancer and the people she's working for are trying to put off paying her until Monday when she was due to be paid the first. They're telling her this because they're “busy.” This is unacceptable, obviously, and she's wanting to message them and explain that pay cannot wait without sounding desperate. It's a long shot, but is there anyone who is well-spoken who can help us compose a message back? She loves her job and doesn't want to jeopardize it but she needs to be paid on time and we're both so fried we can't come up with anything. Thank you in advance to whoever answers if anyone does.
How Do I Get Me Employees to Unionize?
Yall. I am a “manager” (stg this role is not actually management, I can’t even access the system where people are hired) and I am trying to convince my employees to unionize. However, because I have a manager title, I have no right to collective bargaining and I don’t think my employment is protected if I engage in organizing. Because USA. How can I convince these people to unionize without telling them about unions??
I am currently working in a normal blue collar job and I am trying to change careers to working from home. I've been applying sending out 10 to 30 resumes daily to various sites on Indeed, LinkedIn, and other remote job search boards. I get rejected by the vast majority of them and even the WFH jobs that barely have any requirements don't want me for whatever reason. When I do get a response back I am skeptical because I feel like they are usually scams. Most of the time they want me to do a interview over text, or download Telegram, or ask me to pay to get my credit score. I just want them to set up a time in a interview and do a job over Zoom. I desperately want to work from home and I am so sick of these companies trying to scam me. I…
It was a setup in the making for centuries. Losing any kind of control over the building process, driving people mad with menial and repetitive tasks, getting to suck every little amount of time out of workers… It's all kinda explained, and so depressing to see.
On call or not on call? Whats your call?
Need some opinions. My wife's HR job (not salaried) requires her to report exposure for a certain virus within 24 hrs. She is sitting at her laptop on her day off on our holiday weekend reporting because someone tested positive. Is it fair that she is essentially on call for this? Should there be compensation for being on call? Google was no help, so I am asking you all…
Penny pinching gone wrong
So I work as a desktop support tech for the biggest healthcare organization in my state. 14.45 an hour and they reimburse my mileage since I have to travel all over the state or so I thought. Last month my boss denied one of my reimbursement requests since “the hospital is right across the street.” Like yea it’s right across the street but that street is a six lane highway and I don’t want to risk getting hit by a car but whatever. If they don’t want to pay me the 58.5 cents to drive there then I will walk whenever I have to go that hospital. So instead of paying me 1.61 for a round trip I walk over which is a twenty minute walk at least. It’s actually kind of enjoyable and healthier for me so no real complaints. Anyway today I’m covering as the morning weekend desktop…
