I'm on mobile so apologies for formatting. Backstory: i'm applying for a job as a barista in a locally owned coffee shop. They seem desperate for applicants which makes me weary, and makes me want to try for more. I'm only 20 and have never negotiated with managers about pay before, so i'm a bit lost and would love some advice. My friends are telling me $16/hr which is way more than i've ever made so it seems far fetched but also not impossible. //TLDR : applying for barista job desperate for employee, what should i ask for a starting wage?

Shouldn't retail employees have labor day off with pay? I understand working if you work at a hospital (should be double pay then). I mean if Costco can close, why can't Dollar Tree and Marshalls, etc. A bunch of these places close on Christmas (and not everyone is a Christian), but all the retail worker are laborers.

so i was laid off recently in may 2022 from company 2. due to no work being available and interest rates rising along with 35 others in my department. i work in the mortgage industry. i qualified for unemployment benefits. after waiting 3 months florida unemployment deposited a $2,964 check for 12 weeks. two weeks later i get a notice that my employer company 1 from 2021 is filing an appeal to take the money away because they say i was unprofessional in an email i sent to outside vendor. the appeal says “Claimant was hired on 6/16/2020 as a Senior Processor and last day worked was 8/16/2021. We're currently witnessing the biggest scam to ever exist. Our institutions are failing us. They would rather close the door and plug their ears than listen to us to avoid liability. All of our institutions have lost trust from the people and need to be replaced.
