Rent control works
Rent control has a bunch of bs arguments against it by people who mostly look at areas with strong Nimby laws and natural land barriers outside of rent control but their are positive cases as well like Oregon or Parts of Europe but that's besides the point rent control is bad for landlords and what's bad for landlords is good for tenants and first time buyers. You keeping more of your paycheck is always a good thing.
am i being unreasonable ?
i currently make $20 an hour (in new york city, so it’s basically minimum wage) as a receptionist/assistant type person. i currently do everything on my job description every day without fail. i do have a reasonable amount of downtime throughout the day as i am very client based & clients need for me varies wildly day to day, even hour to hour. i’m not the only one with a lot of downtime, i have a coworker who makes significantly more than me who watches netflix pretty frequently in her office. so i’m essentially an “as needed” employee, a dog who sits and waits patiently to be called but i’m always there. i assume they’ve hired me in part because of this. all that said, one of my higher ups seems to think i’m not doing enough so she wants me to take on some extra responsibilities, including managing the…
Rant/Vent about my job
I work at a small business doing office work. I got my friend a job at the company recently because we're hiring in some different departments. We both worked part-time and everyone said that was fine, but today she pretty much got fired without any notice and they said her hours were too sparse/erratic. Both of us were shocked, especially since like 10 people just quit. I'm honestly so upset because I like my actual work/tasks but I hate the environment. Everyone is conservative and bigoted. I have to closet myself and keep my mouth shut when my coworkers start talking about Joe Rogan and nonbinary liberals. This is my first job and I honestly don't want to quit because I can't drive, I don't think I could work in retail or food service, and I'm being paid well and the job is super convenient and easy. I need to…
He works in a different department. They're extremely short staffed. How is this legal? This is just insane to me. Kansas, btw
Background: I work as an admin support in Healthcare on a yearly contract basis. This is a 1 year contract and my contract is ending in December 2022. To be honest, i dont really like working here. My boss kept throwing me work, even when it has nothing to do with my job description. What happened today was, I was at work and my boss told me that they would like to recontract me since my contract is ending in December. I dont wish to recontract. My boss have asked me twice previously that they wish to recontract me. But I refuse as I would like to explore other opportunities. This is my first job after all. I would like to see what's out there besides Healthcare. Today is the 3rd time he asked me and i said no. And he told me “That's unfortunate. It's not hard to find…
