3 months in to a job. Someone got fired in social media shortly after I started and I had to take on all of their responsibilities by myself (along with my multiple responsibilities in my job description). Today I was going over social media stuff, and then the ceo yelled at me that what I’m posting is boring, how they’ve felt that way for weeks and repressed it, how I’m not thinking outside of the box, etc. and how we need to be less business/more fun (sorry but don’t businesses on LinkedIn post about their business?) Also, I was posting on the topics they told me to post on. The thing is: all of these posts go through multiple channels of approval before they are posted. I’m just really disgusted at this absolutely toxic person. I took on a second job with 0 raise…. Time to find a new job.…
Month: October 2022
I saw a post on here recently that some people put a sign on the window or their tip jar that credit card tips don’t go to the employee. So tonight I figure it’s Friday, payday, screw it I’m not cooking let’s just do pizza. I go pick up the order and it’s two kids, maybe 15 but couldn’t have been much over that if at all. I usually don’t tip pick up because no service has really been provided to justify it. But it was busy and the kids looked like they’d probably seen a few Karen’s tonight which fits the area so I hit the preset 15%. I feel I should note this is the best local spot around, 5 minutes from the house and the next closest are Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Papa Johns. This one by far one of the best around. That other post hit…
I work in children’s education and I’ve asked some UK folks in other subs about this; people said I don’t have to disclose my mental health issues but it could be helpful or even necessary if I have a crisis down the line. (ETA: I have depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I’ve never had my MH impact my work in too conspicuous of a way but I’ve just moved to the UK by myself so I don’t have the same support system I’m used to.) I want to know what this community thinks about it though; in the US my response would be “hell no” to disclosing but it seems norms are different in the UK, I’m not sure to what degree. My new employer’s (a charity with around 50 staff members, if that makes any difference) questionnaire asks about several physical conditions like fainting, epilepsy, migraine. I do get migraines…
The only exceptions I've really seen are for retired people who worked for decades and maybe people with disabilities and college students, though there's stigma there too. If you don't have a paying job then people judge the crap out of you, even if you do non-paying work such as domestic work, parenting, volunteering, etc. I live in America and feel that stigma so strongly here. We are taught that we are NEVER doing enough. I remember telling a coworker once that I was going to school full time on top of my job and that I was tired because of it, and her response was that her daughter had several jobs and kids and also was in school. This is the same coworker who thought it was ridiculous that I wouldn't work double shifts at a very physically demanding job, even though I ended up getting injured anyway from…
Did I get scammed by a job posting?
Got a job offer from a post on indeed. I got called, set up an interview, got a second interview, got hired, got sent digital paperwork, got sent to do a drug test, viewed training videos, and took some online courses using their onboarding site. They had promised to pay for my time doing the classes, but it's already been a week and I haven't received any further communication from them. Is anyone familiar with Talent Burst or Nomi Health? When I first got hired they had given me the location of the business, but when I passed by it, it was an abandoned clinic. I had figured they were going to build their business there, but so far I haven't heard from them at all.
I posted the other day about quitting without notice, and I did, I guess my boss told everyone in our tiny “company” of 5 immediately immediately because today I got texts from 2 of my other coworkers along the lines of “yeah I'm leaving too I don't blame you but best of luck”. Aparently he's putting wayyyy too much on everyones plate and the other two were also so done with it. I just wanted to share because it's kinda hilarious to me.
