about two months ago i got a call from a place i had sent an application in. it was the manager and she wanted to know if i was still interested in the job. after some conversing, she told me that when fall arrived she'd be able to give me full time. i told her that i needed more hours than what i was getting at my current job, and she seemed to understand. after an interview in person, i got the job.
flash forward to now, and she's giving me THREE hours a WEEK. after the first week of three hours i was pissed but a little relieved to get a break. then i found out she's got me only working three hours next week too. its been fall for a few weeks and there has been zero mention of full time, only a massive decrease in hours.
today i went in and confronted her about the situation. she told me that she never promised me full time, which is absolutely a lie. she lured me into this job with the promise of full time, and now im making WAY less than i was at my previous job. she said the hours given out were based on whose the fastest workers, but i know for sure there are slower and newer workers getting more hours than I am.
i suspect the lowering of hours is heavily based in discrimination, too. she continually misgenders me, puts unnecessary blame on me because im new, allows one of her shift managers to constantly criticize and control me, spreads half truths and gossips about people attempting to turn them against each other, shows a strong dislike towards me and other coworkers who are not cis, and i've heard MANY complaints from current coworkers about her blatant homophobia and racism. she also had an issue with me wearing makeup, claiming it was “not normal” and “unprofessional”, but in my interview, the man i was talking to (who is my manager's superior) told me my makeup would never be an issue in the workplace. i have refused to change or stop wearing makeup for her.
i have no idea how to tackle this. my boss is discriminating, possibly retaliating, and boldfaced lying to me and i feel like the only power i have in this is quitting. i appreciate any help or advice anyone might have, thank you 🙂
