I've been working DUG part time at Albertsons for just over two months, first job as a 19yo, and for the most part it's been great – except for the schedule. Without fail, I've been scheduled every Saturday since I started, except for Labor Day weekend which I specifically asked for off. I thought being scheduled for every Saturday would be a temporary thing, but… two months later, I finally asked our scheduling manager if I could get at least one weekend day guaranteed off in order to be able to spend time with my parents, who are up there in years (66 and 57 respectively) and still in the workforce. The response? Basically “you were hired to be the weekend kid, suck it up”. I know it may sound like a minor thing, particularly considering I'm 19 and this is my first job, but… I've had enough. Yesterday my boss told me they’re eliminating my position. They said I have two options: I can accept a severance package or accept a role in another department. This other role is the only other role they’re currently hiring for and it is not something I’m remotely interested in. I know I will be very unhappy in that position. I’ve been with this company for 10 years and a few months ago they were acquired by a conglomerate. My role was reduced but they told me they still had a need for my role, until yesterday. With these changes I have been unhappy with the company’s leadership and have considered leaving but stayed for a few reasons.. Am I crazy? But I only just found out I didn’t get paid for Labor Day. I am part of a union and a full time city employee. I can’t believe I do not get to reap the rewards of this holiday, wasn’t it made into a holiday because of unions?? But hey at least they are giving my coworkers and I a Little Caesar’s pizza party next week. . .

I was supposed to interview with an equitable, international, and also litigious financial company today only to be completely blown off by the interviewer. Imagine if I was just 5-10 minutes late, that could be used against me on my interview. I was 30 minutes early and waited an extra hour before reaching out to my recruiter. Why is this the representation I should receive from a potential employer? This is not the first company to do this to me either. What a waste of my time!

He used to work at a non profit as a therapist and now he works at a for profit as a therapist. He actually like his new for profit workplace more than his nonprofit work place. At the non profit he had to deal with workplace politics, do stuff not in his job description and commute to work. His old manager at the nonprofit micromanages him and pressures him to do overtime constantly under the excuse of “the community needs you”. Then they offer him a 3% raise for inflation adjustment while the executive director got a 12% raise. When he asked why they said they don’t have the budget. Two years ago I bought a 7th row ticket to see King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at Red Rocks, Colorado. I’m 40, a family man, and I’d never taken a trip by myself. I’d also never seen a show at Red Rocks. Finally, I’d never seen King Gizzard, one of my absolute favorite bands, perform live. I booked flights, a hotel room, and a rental car for what was supposed to be a two-day trip full of personal firsts.
