I’ve worked for this bagel shop for a little more than four years now. For the first three years I would go above and beyond but finally realized this last year that I could just do the bare minimum and they wouldn’t care. $17/hr + tips isn’t bad when you’re just making dough for a few hours then chilling on your phone the rest of the day. That was until I found out the “general manager” they hired 6 months ago started at $17 and is now making $23/hr (no tips but still about $3-4 dollars than me). If this dude was actually competent I probably wouldn’t be mad but I can do everything he does and way more efficient. He can’t do one part of my job. It’s the fact that I have been here longer than anyone else, more reliable than anyone else and they haven’t even offered…

I get up at 7 AM and am back home around 6 PM. I go to sleep around 11 PM. So in theory I have 5 hours of free time but showering – cooking – preparing things for the next day – house work ect reduce this time to about 3 hours. Wow…… I dont get how people can claim that they go to the gym for 2 hours every day – or how they manage to read like 200 books in a year – or how they manage anything other than working and regenerating. The 40 hour work week and all things related to it suck up like 3/4 of all “your” non sleeping time from Monday to Friday. Its insane.

TLDR: was followed in the restroom and watched through the stalls. It happened three times and I told them to STOP. It's clear they're checking to make sure employees are not on their phones, but that's not a valid reason to be looking at and watching my lower half while I'm undressed and wiping. I mean this literally. Not just checking to make sure I am in there. She was watching me through the stall and literally watching me wipe myself. I was FURIOUS. Livid. I told the manager it was unacceptable. I told the owner it was unacceptable. I was told that if I use the restroom any more than ONCE or not on a designated break that my hours would be cut. Not only is this already illegal but I have a diagnosed condition called glucose intolerance. (Don't lecture me, I'm working my ass off to reduce it…

Sorry couldn't change the title after posting. Should've said Get fired = unemployment benefits? I noticed this pattern on this subreddit where if a person in the US has a “choice” to quit their job or get fired from their job, the better option is to get fired to collect unemployment benefits. Is collecting unemployment really that simple by getting fired? Are there more details to this? Would there be a specific reason required to collect unemployment from benefits? I've also seen that you're more likely to get benefits if you had your dismissal in writing? If you were to apply for another job, given that you chose to get fired for unemployment benefits, would this affect your future ability to find a job? Coming from a 24 year old.

I left my workplace for awhile and come back to it somehow being worse. The only director that somewhat held things together and helped keep my sanity, while these jokes who were out of their element came to start up the contract were whittling away at it, suddenly put in his two weeks notice. There has been high turnover rate and although I'm in not only the two contract holders graces but even got praise from the vice-president of the property, one of the contract holders is high maintenance and asks for alot of stuff that we aren't contracted to do but have to anyway, less we all lose our jobs.
