Month: October 2022
Received an email with HR copied on it. (documentation purposes) I understand you are having health issues….. we need more productivity etc. I communicated very clearly what was going on and have a personal relationship with my boss. I responded with my health is more important than anything else right now. I also responded that I feel completely minimized by those comments of health issues. They made me feel hurt and less than beyond my disability of being diagnosed Bipolar II. Quick rant. If no one comments, that's fine. I wanted to get it off my chest so I don't scream or punch a wall here. I broke a knuckle doing the same thing over the summer.
I work at a fine dining restaurant in a hotel, and guests are able to charge their restaurant bills to their rooms. To do so, they must fill out their room number & print their name. Last night I had a $207 ticket and the guest didn’t fill out those portions, so when I told the manager he said I can come in today(my day off) and stand in the lobby and try to find them and if I can’t they’re going to have to “document me”, whatever that means. This is the fourth time room service charges have been an issue for me since I started two weeks ago. First time when I was training, my trainer had a table put down a random name/room number and then left immediately. They didn’t even have a room at the hotel. The second time I had to chase the couple down…
Crappy Job Interview Rant
I interviewed last week for a data entry position that sounds like a dream: work from home, pays well, and best part, no phone calls! During this interview, the guy asks if I’d like to be considered for another position. He said my resume would also be a match, and because I’m desperate for work, I mistakenly said yes. (I’ve been unemployed for 2.5 months and searching constantly with no luck, so I really need to start working ASAP). The next day, he interviews me for this other job. I won’t say the title, but it definitely requires talking to people (cold calls, talking to customers, getting payment). The guy try to sell me on it, even though I make it clear it’s not exactly what I’m looking for, but acknowledge there’s some crossover. At the end of the interview, he asks: even though I’m more interested in the data…
Almost got fired today
I started this new job this week and since starting my schedule has changed 2-3 times. I received a call two days ago saying that I was supposed to work today. When I showed up I noticed I wasn’t put on the schedule so I thought there was some scheduling issue or a misunderstanding going on. I asked my supervisor about it and she said I could go home if I wanted so I did. I received a call from the owner of the place asking why I didn’t stay for my shift, that a manager had called and told me to come in for today. She seemed upset and like she was going to fire me. I feel like I’m fucking this up and I don’t know if it’s my fault or not.
“request off” vs. unavailability
So I've been at a position for a little over a month. I help organize monthly kink events and told them that I'm part of the organization team and I'd need at least one weekend off a month to do it. This was agreed upon prior to my hiring. I put notice in for our after-thanksgiving party, but my supervisor said “Oh, well we're super busy on black friday and thanksgiving, nobody gets those off, but you might because you're the first to try” . I know the event wouldn't suffer without me really but I'm still not missing it. This isn't even retail.
“We must preserve the workplace culture”
My wife is the top performer on her team and, besides the top raise of a whopping 3.5%, they thought this would motivate the team.
So here’s the context. My dog has treatable cancer. It has been super fucking stressful of course, and expensive, but the end of the tunnel is in sight. She has surgery scheduled for the 4th of November, $600 deposit already paid. The work schedule for that week had not been written as of last week when I grabbed the appointment, and is still being written today. I requested in writing for that day off last week. My manager does not know it is for my dog—as far as she is aware, it is for me. Reason for that is that as soon as she found out about my dog issues (I was crying, so she found out), she informed me a sick dog is not a reason to call out. (Unprompted mind you, I was crying, she asked what was wrong, I told her, she “aww there there”’d me, then…
