New coworker already trying to start a clique.

Heard her make a snipe about me putting down a stepstool the wrong way. She seems to heavily dislike me, I couldn't care less about her strange attitude towards me, coworkers aren't friends, I have no desire for her approval or her cliquish behaviour. As an earlier post I made mentions. The supervisor I have is quite nice but is incompetent and prone to gossip. Just the right shoe fit for the new coworker. They spent X amount of time talking where work could have been done. I am what they call a “lone wolf” coworker. I don't go to work to make friends, but I do feel compelled to make the atmosphere comfortable at least and I will attend staff parties. But I feel a disturbance and I am trying to ignore it. Usually people like this just self implode from…whatever…and quit.

Your unpreparedness is not my problem

5 months ago a team member joined our department. She let us know right away that she is 4 months pregnant. For more than 2 months I’ve offered to take on her responsibilities when she goes on FMLA for a bit of extra overtime. Management was adamant that they would bring in a temp. 3 weeks ago they found one, I worked for hours with her on training and Monday this week she decided it wasn’t for her. Yesterday the team member who’s pregnant gets told to work from home (our jobs are still very paper based so this is not great for me who’s still here). This morning I was asked to do her duties, so in response I asked if we would be absorbing her duties and was told it’s not long term and they’re interviewing other temps (who I’d be expected to train). I’m being expected to do two different jobs at work, with no extra pay.

I (23F) work at a clinic as a patient care coordinator for speech therapy. I mainly help coordinate and answer questions about speech therapy, it’s a field I am very interested in and I want to be a speech therapist in the future. Our office is relatively small, my other colleagues are a front office manager for audiology, a speech therapist, an audiologist, and a 4-year audiology resident. Lately, our clinic has been short staffed as we have three different locations. So, when my front office manager goes on vacation, I am expected to not only do my job, but hers as well. She makes more than I do, I get payed $20, which isn’t terrible. My problem is that my front office manager (FOM) can’t be bothered to find someone in her department (audiology) to help cover the front desk and help with audiology patients when she is gone.…

Am I in the wrong for feeling like this?

So I work for a company at home answering calls all day. I went for an internship for a higher position which I did not get. I got told the reason why was because of a failure to communicate, now keep in mind I have a severally ill wife who requires me to use my approved FMLA leave, I found out that the so-called issue happened on a day that I used FMLA. To top if off I have proof that not only did I communicate that I was not going to be there that day but the reason why (FMLA). ​ I believe my FMLA was held against me for a job opportunity that I really wanted and truly enjoyed. Just thinking about the future depresses me

The thought of having to work 5+ days a week for the next 3-4 decades just makes me incredibly sad. And that’s assuming I can retire at some point, which currently isn’t looking too good for me. I’m an introvert and I’ve never been good at playing the corporate game to get ahead. Most of the time I don’t even have the energy thanks to depression. How do you deal with this crushing weight that it’s all just pointless and yet never ending?

I got someone else’s entire work load after layoffs and now I’m stressed

My manager keeps saying I'm supported while all this guys work is reassigned to me but I'm starting to feel extremely resentful. I'm a younger minority woman and I'm seeing that the company is laying off employees who have been here 15+ years. The more expensive employees I'm guessing. And I was originally hired to help the person they laid off because his territory was too much for him to handle alone. So we split it in half. So why lay off the guy who barely held the territory together by himself but was extremely experienced? And give it to the less experienced worker? My only reasoning is they hoped I was too meek to ask for a raise to match the extra work and I'd just accept the workload of 2 people for the price of one. Federally protected… but… they state it’s their policy…

So in the US we are federally protected about talking about wages with coworkers. If you read on it, companies are not allowed to make policies forbidding it, nor can they retaliate against those who do. My current company I work for, makes no secret that they are VERY against sharing income, to the point of actual threats. They as much as told me, when I mentioned my protection at a federal level from their punishment if I did, that they’d find a reason to let the guilty parties go… currently looking for another job. I guess I wonder how others feel about work environments like this? It makes me super uncomfortable!! Especially if the frickin govt “protects” me.

Does Washington State not require 30 min meal breaks?

Hi guys, quick question for you. My significant other just started a new job today and she called me to tell me that during her 8 hour shift as a server, she gets no breaks and 10 minute lunches. Is that ok for the employer to do? Thanks in advance!
