My husband got a job (as an independent contractor) at the beginning of November installing & hanging Christmas lights. This job was seasonal & paid $30/hour. He was told that he would be paid at the end of each day he worked. He worked a full day on November 2nd & everything went great. Boss paid him via Venmo. Then it rained for a week & they couldn't work. The next day they worked was on November 9th. My husband worked 11.5 hours that day. At about 6:00 pm, when they were wrapping up, the boss asked if my husband would prefer Venmo or to follow him to his bank for cash — but he really made it seem like he preferred my husband get cash. He was owed $345. The boss mumbled the name & location of his bank and then proceeded to take off like he was on…

Anyone else petty with jobs these days?
I've been trying to get out of the freelance world as it isn't steady income enough ( although stress free and more freedom) cause I wanna move out of my parents home and also save up more. However. HR ghosts or don't respond even after several follow ups. Then weeks or months later they reach out, assuming the person they chose initially didn't work out. I'm petty though so even though I'm still looking they can go fuck themselves. After 4+ rounds of interviews (mind you these are entry level positions) plus projects and then ghost is pathetic. By then its usually only a small hand full of people that make it that far, so there's no excuse why you can't send a formal rejection email. One time I did 4 rounds for a door to door sales job that advertised it as “Marketing” lol. Also, maybe I'm wrong but…
Working for a family-owned business….
The nepotism is REAL. Been at this job for a year and a half. It's an office job in Texas for reference. I have a coworker who is the daughter of the owner. Office employees are salary. She comes into work only on Mondays and Fridays now for about 4-5 hours each of those days. Still gets paid her full 40-hour salary, which is about double of what I am currently making. She is constantly behind on her work (one example, she's behind 6 months of reconciling CC statements) and never takes the help I offer her. I am always caught up on all my work and even have time to spare. I am beyond fed up. I have complained and nothing gets done about it. I am told she can do what she wants and not to worry about it. They gave me more work to do a couple…
Does he think I’m obligated?
I am in between jobs after getting laid off, and I’ve been interviewing like crazy. There is a coffee shop/ chain in Utah called “Beans and Brews.” I interviewed at Starbucks, which pays $16 an hour. I was leaning towards BAB because it’s a more local place, I think they are only in Utah(?), and they have better non-frozen food, and the atmosphere is awesome. I asked them how much pay was, and the manager told me $8… in this day in age?? Obviously that’s a no for me. I told them in the interview that I was 25 and married, not a 16 year old having their first job. It’s just hard cause I have no college degree. But most of the staff I met looked my age or older? But I’m so torn now. I almost want to boycott that place, their drinks are just as expensive as…
This is just a personal feeling. My biological clock has been off for the past few years. I have never truly felt fully awake at work. I sleep in on the weekend (or when I am unemployed) and I don't feel fully rested until 10 am at the earliest. And it does affect my performance when I have a job and I am just another person dependent on coffee. I might have a sleeping disorder. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer this year (which has been hidden for years) and that can affect your quality of sleep. I may or may not also have narcolepsy. I have a snoring problem, but not to a point of obstructive sleep apnea. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to see any other specialist at this time due to being unemployed and the high copays.
Retail is Terrible
This is a long one, buckle up guys! Before Covid hit I worked at a certain retail chain. My manager was incompetent and always messed up my schedule. Then she decided to hire an older woman to be assistant manager. This woman would pick favorites and hold grudges. If she hated you she wouldn’t give you hours. One time I asked her directly for more, and she scheduled me for full shifts 8 days in a row when I was part time. She also knew that I have a condition that means I can’t work that much/ be on my feet that long. Keep in mind she would usually only schedule me 1-2 days for 4 or 5 hour shifts. She also would never give me my little awards for my stupid name tag, but gave them to everyone else. She even made sure I was the only one without…
Currently debating leaving my current job (which I’m miserable at) for a similar one with a slightly lower pay in a better city but with a higher COL. I’m curious to know opinions!
Every job I apply to has 200 other applicants. It's no wonder to me why I can't get an interview to save my life! I doubt 90% of the places I apply to ever even look at my resume at all. Who would, with that many? As soon as a recruiter has 2 or 3 they like, they probably just throw the rest into their trash folder or send an automatic “no thanks” and focus on the 3 likely first picks. I could be the literal best person for a role and never get as far as having my resume looked at. So instead, I am just getting more and more and more lottery tickets, hoping that one ends up being a winner. But my odds seem astronomically low, and it's terribly discouraging.
Just Passed Up a Job
It was in leadership at a manufacturing plant in the Portland Oregon area… My pay would have been $56K a year. 14K under what I would expect…. But machine Operators start at $18 ish an hour. Sorry guys. $18 an hour is not enough to pay rent. It's also not enough to limit turnover. I get that its not all about pay, but yeah ppl need to eat…
