Every job I start begins with the fake hellos and the fake getting to know you. Then a week or less in you realize why no one wants to work these jobs. There is Always some manager on a power trip. Literally one of my supervisors is dating someone that works here and has her kids working here. Making it extremely clicky. And they didn't seem to like me from the start for whatever reason. Just because I am filling your crappy position doesn't mean I am less of a person. Just because you don't want to be my friend doesn't mean I can't fill this position and do it well. I've gotten nothing but compliments. Still she ignores me or I'll say have a good night. She says I will. Just that kinda manager. They wonder why no one wants work here. Notices everywhere asking if anyone we know…

I know the obvious answer to my title is NO, but let me explain! I applied to this job (for a part time position of office assistant in a psychiatric practice, $16/hour) in late October. A week after I applied, I got a phone call from the owner/head psychiatrist asking me what I'm looking for, availability, and what the job entails. I'm only able to work three days a week, (T, TR, F) since I go to college M and W. He explained that they're looking for an office assistant, but also a TMS technician, since they offer TMS therapy, which I will have on the job training for. I honestly didn't mind, since I'm a certified medical assistant and have experience with patients, etc. So, we scheduled a day for me to come for an interview. Forgot to add: I previously had classes Tuesday and Thursdays, but since he…
I just did a big shop at target and got dinner at panda express afterwards, and it was so busy and chaotic, with customers being hectic (and few wearing masks – some openly coughing at the cash register ) – and I just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you to the workers here (I of course thanked em in person too). It can be so demanding and demoralizing, I know (I’ve been there!), and I know too that a lot of what makes it worthwhile is good people, whether it be coworkers or customers. I read the stories on here daily, and it reminds me to never lose sight of what’s important, and that every worker has a life and worth beyond our quick interactions at the store. I know that there’s a whole mix of jobs and experiences in the community here, but wanted to offer…
I make $16/hr – discussion with my coworkers revealed that many of them make $18/hr for the same duties (and I have worked there longer) Politely requested a conversation with my boss to discuss my underpayment He refused to raise my wages to match my coworkers based on the following: It is illegal to discuss wages with my coworkers Despite working the same full-time days, hours, shifts, etc. as my coworkers (40+ hour weeks), I am officially recorded on payroll as a part-time employee, and part-timers don't ever make more than $16/hr He says he's been “holding off on taking disciplinary action” against me anyways for “having a negative attitude in the workplace”, and that I should be grateful for what I'm given already When I mentioned that others were making more than me (I didn't say any names), he said that both myself and the others could be “subject…
never ending cycle
Now we the American working population Hate the fact that eight hours a day Is wasted on chasing the dream of someone that isn't us And we may not hate our jobs But we hate jobs in general That don't have to do with fighting our own causes We the American working population Hate the nine-to-five day-in day-out When we'd rather be supporting ourselves By being paid to perfect the pasttimes That we have harbored based solely on the fact That it makes us smile if it sounds dope My friend reminded me of this song recently but I can’t help but want to share it- the lyrics really capture the message of; we’re fine working but we don’t want our whole life to be about work or being underpaid while working Aesop Rock, 9-5ers Anthem: https://music.apple.com/us/album/9-5ers-anthem/1623688022?i=1623688818
I work in a medium-sized IT company. I’ve been here for over a year and because I’m not a developer or in any management position, my work here has been relatively drama-free. In fact, I became good friends with some of my coworkers which is how I came to find out my workplace has threatened to file SA accusations against two employees in the past (it’s a fully remote company and one of them was a woman whom I worked with every day), and most recently a coworker with my same position was accused of “plagiarizing” a work document and forced to leave. The salary has been keeping me going so far but every day I’m dreading the moment the higher ups decide they’re done with me and put me through a similar loop. I don’t know if anything can be done because suing them would take time and resources…
Idk if this the correct subreddit but I work at a call center and my schedule is 1:30pm-10pm. I usually arrive at 1:25 or 1:29 at my desk and usually open all my systems (it takes me around 4-5 min to do so). I was informed by my supervisor that I should be ready to take calls by 1:30 and thats how it should be on my time sheet, not turning on the computer and open my systems at 1:30. Im confused, is that legal? I have to come early and turn on every system unpaid?
