Donating PTO?
I’m curious what people’s thoughts are on the concept of asking workers to donate their PTO to co-workers in need. I work at a school, and we have a first-year teacher whose father passed away overseas. People sincerely asked what they could do to help, and my director’s first response was that we could donate our PTO to her because she hasn’t accrued a lot. To me, this just spoke to how unsupportive the work environment is- that work cannot pay you during a grieving period unless you have enough PTO. I know this is a reality, but the messaging still felt tone deaf to me somehow.
How do you talk about why you got fired?
I got fired from my last job like a month ago, basically for having attention issues, lateness issues, making the company look bad after saying the wrong thing, and getting injured on the job and going on workers comp. They gave me a nice severance package ,I think because they don't want to get sued. I have ADHD and carpal tunnel and I mentioned that my attention problems have gotten worse after they cut the staff and I just can't focus with this overwork and shifting schedules. It just kept getting worse and I kept getting blamed for everything until I got fired. Anyway I'm ok for money ATM but I gotta find a new job to qualify for a new apartment. How do you talk about why you got fired at a job interview when you didn't do well ? I don't wanna say it's bc I have ADHD…
My 4yo nephew has been in the icu following a bad accident in his sitters car. His mom has been by his side in the hospital ever since. 7 days so far. Nephew is still very sick off vent now. Very much in need of his mother. She’s used all her vacation days and now her supervisor said if she doesn’t come to work tomorrow time off will be counted against her. She should qualify for FMLA, based on size of employer and employment history. My sister is young and didn’t know what FMLA was. She’s calling Human Resources and filing paperwork tomorrow. I know everyone is short staffed right now but damn that was a low move.
Absolutely shame on Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge Mark McGinnis! I don't care that the injunction was only 3 days, I don't care that it was lifted on Monday. The fact that McGinnis approved the injunction at all should be grounds for disbarment. Nobody, certainly no government official, should be allowed to prevent you from quitting a job so you can take a better-paying one! Wisconsin is an “at-will state” and guess what — it can go both ways. https://www.businessinsider.com/thedacare-asks-judge-block-workers-leaving-higher-pay-competitor-2022-1?op=1 https://finance.yahoo.com/news/column-medical-team-quit-hospital-180358656.html
