So our entire department has had major IT issues. I cannot do much of anything. Direct managers cannot help. I take it up with upper management again. I have been to everybody that I can, including HR. I am asking for the ability to work. That is it. Today, in a meeting with just me and upper management, I was told that “I get nothing, because I do not play the back scratching game good enough and IT does not owe me a favor” So I asked, “I still get paid” that is when he lost it, saying I am only here for the money. Why else why I be there. It would just make my day easier having the ability, Why tell me I get nothing, when I get paid? I wanted to point out he was wrong, I do not play the game at all. In order to…

The “Work-Life” Balance
Greedy Landlords and Depressed Wages
I think most agree that the internet has been an amazing force of empowerment for equality and democracy around the world. However, in many countries, and importantly the US, the financial system is top-heavy, largely privatized, and the product of perverse incentives. Making money transparent, borderless, interconnected, and value-derived is a massive leap forward (even if value is subjective).. and no, I'm not shilling Bitcoin. I think there's a misunderstanding that 'internet money' means Bitcoin, and that the early adopters will get all the Bitcoin. That's not how this works.. Bitcoin will own a very tiny share of global finance, and there will be millions of other projects that will seamlessly create wealth, organically, as they spring up.. and the value will be enjoyed by those involved, and early adopters. Imagine you create a Tiktok account, and due to its popularity, Tiktok owns 1% of the global market cap of…
I am currently a security guard looking to change careers. Ever since the pandemic I wanted to work from home and I've been applying continuously and I've been rejected by every single work from home job I've applied to. My work history: besides doing security, I worked for half a year at a computer repair shop as a intern, prior to that I would help my dads business at his store. I did go to community college but I did not get a degree. I do have fast typing speed at around 80 to 100wpm and I know various Microsoft office experiences except for excel. I've been applying to a lot of remote jobs but I am constantly getting rejections. Even from entry level remote jobs I feel like I could do where the job description is: fast typing speed, fast wifi, HS Diploma, and quiet work space. Even these…
Coworker’s Ringtone Advice
I do don’t want to be “that” coworker. My desk mate’s ringtone is the same as my recently passed mother. It’s a nightmare for me. I haven’t said anything or shown any emotion about it. Is it appropriate to ask her if she could change it? I’m willing to pay for a special song if she wanted? I’m not quite a boomer and I don’t want to look like an idiot. Social norms are changing and I don’t want to step in it. Suck it up? Get her the favorite muffin and ask?
