I love Gen Z and Millenials
I've been watching this new generation completely shake up the way things are and its fabulous. It s so nice to see the changes. Like no more 2 week notices. Wows this was a huge no no back in the day but why? Employers dont give you a 2 weeks. Younger gens say fuck that noise 2 day notices as in I quit today motherfucker. The career chase is dead. Who the fuck has time for a career when we're working to survive. Mental health days are starting to become more normalized but here in the states it wont be widely acceptable for some time. However progress is being made. People slamming interviews for being shit and not offering pay. I feel like this a change no other generation has seen. We dont just do what our parents did, we dont just follow culture for culture sake, we ask questions,we…
As the title states. I work for Kroger, which is mainly for the union. The store has tried to fuck me over multiple times now, and I'm not having it. The main bit is that my schedule is not supposed to change. Well, it did. My boss scheduled me for some weird ass bizarro schedule, where all my days and hours were wrong. So I came in my usual times, since my schedule shouldnt change, her words. I'm then yelled at by the store manager, telling me I can't just “come in whenever” and that I needed to “work ONLY my schedule”. OK, Done. Today, I work noon to 8. I get a call at 9.30 asking me if I can come in early. “Sorry, I was told to work ONLY my schedule.” Their response? “Oh, that just means you can't come in on your days off and work. You…
Unpaid on-call hours (help!)
One of the shifts at my work is sick call replacement. Basically they’ll call you some time after 8am if they have a shift for you. Recently they changed the start time to 6am. So now I’m expected to wake up 2 hours earlier for on call for sick days, with no additional pay. Should there be compensation for me sitting around my phone all morning, knowing I need to be ready to leave within 20 minutes at any moment???
Now I've shown up and they're asking me to stay because someone called in sick. They're saying they can move my extra vacation day elsewhere, but all my vacation days expire April 1st, and I don't trust them to make it official before then. Should I stay or should I go?
attitude from managers
so i have strep throat currently and work in a restaurant. i only work there a couple days a week at the moment for mental health reasons but yeah. anyway i felt it would be irresponsible to go into my shift today but if they truly needed me to come i’d take precautions and wear a mask if necessary which i told my manager very politely over the phone. i just know there’s still a chance i could spread it cus it’s very contagious. he asks if i’ve taken antibiotics, and i’m just honest and say that no i haven’t been able to access those because i can’t afford a doctor’s visit. there’s just this very long pause and with some attitude and exasperation i get “okay well you can either come in wear a mask or stay home it’s whatever your choice is” and i’m just a bit surprised…
Bonus? What bonus?
I'm a bartender. For Saint Paddys weekend, we were given a target of 35k. We went over it, and took in 38k. We totally smashed our sales, and were one of the highest takers in the entire company. 7th out of 120 pubs. I work minimum wage. I had to work 16 hours on Saint Paddys, then 11 hours yesterday. All my co-workers are in the same boat as me. I also have to work again today, but at least its only 5 hours. We were all entitled to a hour long break on Saint Paddys, but we only had 40 minutes as it was so busy. Illegal, I know. We also don't get a bonus. It doesn't matter that we smashed our target, we don't get a bonus. Our bosses have said that our 'bonus' goes towards our staff party, happening next week, but that staff party is our…
152 years of the Paris Commune – the first working-class government.
I recently finished the final stage for a graduate job. Speaking with other candidates online, I discovered that the recruitment process is disorganised and maybe be susceptible to exploit (eg. they send the wrong emails, and don't get back to candidates in the times they set). Could someone offer me some ideas or share their knowledge on how I could go about securing a job by exploiting this? My plan is to send an email or phone and ask a follow-up inquiry like: Dear xxx, Thank you for contacting me and accepting my application for this opportunity. Could you kindly tell me when I can expect to receive a contract for this position? All the best, xxx Because they are disorganised, I may fool them into thinking they have already made me an offer when they have not. If this doesn't work, I'll just say I emailed the wrong company.…
