So I have been with my job for a year and I’m supposed to be in the office 5x a week. I got into a major car accident last month, leaving me with a concussion and advised by my neurologist to WFH until needed. However, I got a job offer that’s fully remote and a 35% increase in pay. Am I in the wrong to put my two weeks in at my job even though they have been accommodating to my health issue ATM? 2 people from our team just left within the last month, so our department is falling apart as well. My manager is awful and a micro manager- so I’ve been looking to leave for some time.

“What do you do for a living”
Why is it so common to ask people what they do for a living or what their job is? I’ve never once asked anybody that question because I don’t care nor do I want to talk about what I do for money, but it seems like that’s the first question anybody ever asks when getting to know someone. There is so much more to life than what you do for money. If you really want to get to know me, ask me about my hobbies. You’ll get more passion and info out of those answers than asking me about work. Also, asking someone “what they do for a living” is a terrible way to ask why their job is. It implies that their job is their life. Whenever someone asks me that question, I always respond with my hobbies, which always confuses the person. I do this because my job…
Giving No Notice?
I’ve been at a job for 9 months. In this time I’ve gotten on great with everyone and am getting great feedback. However, this isn’t the work that I was expecting. I was hired for accounting work, number crunching and analyzing which is my passion, but it’s turned out to be 100% customer service with people who couldn’t navigate a number set if their lives depended on it. So I’m miserable. I found my dream job at my dream company, and I’m about an hour away from getting an offer letter. I’m so excited that I’m vibrating and can’t get out of here fast enough. Thing is, the owner at my current company takes resignation letters VERY personally and of the five people I’ve seen resign in my short time here, every second of those two weeks were a hell-scape. I’m already miserable when they like me, so I can…
What do I do? HR is calling us for separation packages. We’re being let go this month. Do I accept what they offer or go for unemployment? Can you do both?
Little backstory: I got offered my current job last April (didn't start until May because of onboarding and getting COVID), and I genuinely like it. I have a good work life balance, good bosses, a good team, and what I'm doing is important (I do work supporting trials involving a well known vaccine). So I haven't applied to any new jobs in a year because I'm happy where I am and I'm not looking to make any changes right now. But just an example of how much of a nightmare applying for jobs is: I got an email today informing me that a role I applied for with another company has been placed on hold. Again, I had to have applied to this role AT LEAST 12 MONTHS AGO, and it easily could have been up to 18 months or even longer ago, I don't remember when I applied to…
