I’ve worked in the bakery for 3 years (including by myself when Covid hit after my coworker walked out for about 2 years) and we’re led by false promises that I’d get to do fun stuff like decorating cakes if I went full time. I being naive fell for it, and got trapped. Now with a control freak manager, a lazy coworker who’s gone for the week visiting family, and me suffering some kinda mental burn out, I think I’ve had enough but finding a way out when living with with people who won’t take your side (mostly my mom, dad at least supports me leaving for a different place if I’m not going to be taken seriously). For some quick context that’s important for the incident: Saturday I had taken off months in advance for a family wedding, but once we knew it was in the afternoon and my…

How to report my boss for stealing tips?
Hi there. I was working at a bar where we make above min wage and tips went to charity – for the first year or so of my employment, the “charity” was the bar itself. Nobody knew this unless we told them and in fact most people thought they were tipping us because there were no signs. How illegal is this? The tips are going to charity now, but my limited understanding is that even that is illegal. I recently was fucked over (surprise) by said boss, so now I’m done pretending like it’s okay. How can I report this / is it illegal / etc? State is SC, US.
Need advice!
My department has been bleeding staff like crazy, either firings or people jumping ship. The staff in my department has gone down from like 15+ to just 4 of us. Instead of hiring more people, my job is deciding to just consolidate positions and outsource jobs to consultants who they’re afraid to call in for help because then they would have to pay the consultants for every consult. It’s gotten to a point where they are expecting me to start taking on more and more responsibility. Like being asked to be proficient in a lot more than I originally signed on for as a specialist because they won’t hire more staff to fill in the gaps. Is it shitty for me to be standing my ground that they need to re negotiate my salary if I’m going to be loaded with more responsibility? I’ve expressed the desire to re negotiate…
He’s always like “We’re gonna go outta business” and pushes his small business employees to work 10-11 hour days. If he’s paying $1 mil in taxes he’s gotta be taking home at least $1 mil himself right? I can only assume he’s bitching about his employer contribution portion of his employees’ salaries and then taxes on reported profits. He’s got half a dozen family members who work one day a week on the payroll (and some that don’t). He’s full of shit right?
Stop Laying Around, Gen Z /s
“It’s time for Gen Z to stop ‘bed rotting’ and leave the house.” This article was obviously written by someone who has money or parents with money. I rolled my eyes hard the entire time I read this drivel. https://nypost.com/2023/05/30/bed-rotting-gen-z-is-killing-their-future-never-be-at-home/amp/
Overtime during an on-cal week
If I have an on-call shift and get called into work I get paid 1.5x base rate I work12 hour shifts Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of a week and on-call where I was called in on Sunday for the whole 12 hours. My employer only paid me 12 hours overtime. I am in a union and am a union steward but am constantly fighting the other stewards due to their lack of wanting to do anything. Our contract states we be paid 1.5x for on-call.
