For context: I work at a family owned car wash and I am 17 years old. To make a long story short two days ago at work my boss shouted in my face because another employee sent the car down the tunnel while he was repairing something, when he had told me not to send the car. It is important to note that my boss neglected to take any of the typical safety measures, or tell any of the other 3 employees on that shift before going into the tunnel. Later that day, he apologized for the confrontation and admitted the scenario was entirely his fault. New schedule just came out and I was given 0 shifts this week. Completely off of the schedule. Usually I get 2 or 3 shifts a week which isn't a lot, but this still hurts me considering I am saving up money for college…

Now here's the thing, I'm not really big on the whole “no-work” idea, but I've just got to rant. I (18) am currently working a temporary job on a 40 hour shift, making about $17.30. It's not great, but I'm living with my parents, and I'm really only working to stay occupied and make some cash for the future. Recently, my parents have been getting some new policies on their insurance, specifically their health insurance. I'm currently covered on it as a dependent, along with a couple more siblings. Here's the thing: the new updates to our coverage has made the insurance company decide that, since I have a job, I should be able to cover my own insurance, because I'm just rolling in the dough. My options are one of three things: Pay a premium of way-too-fucking-much, work a 20 hour shift instead, or quit. I honestly have no…

Just heard from a friend that their office closed all operations for the week of 4th of July and required employees to take 3 days of PTO for the 5th-7th since their office was closed. The employees had no choice but to use their PTO days during this timeframe. Is this a common occurrence in business? I’ve never heard of this and it seems they’re essentially stealing your PTO days since you cannot work those 3 days at all.
Normal to be yelled at on first day?
Examples include: Managers who refuse to answer a customer’s questions on high-priced products Upper management who doesn’t take the time to understand if their complex order book is easy to read by their customers A business owner who doesn’t take the time to understand his computer software for looking up inventory, or adding information to a website Family members who work for a business and gaslight the new hire for issues that started long ago, that have nothing to do with the new hire Therapists who think they can say whatever they want to their clients, and nobody will know the difference Parents who want their children to go to private schools but then have trouble paying their mortgage Family members who don’t teach their kids financial literacy and have various money problems, even though they have leadership positions in other organizations A pastor of a large church who has…
“You will be fine getting married in your early twenties.” “You could get a tattoo” (instead of trying mindfulness to deal with an issue) “You should focus on your own goals” (despite the fact that it’s very challenging to do so for various reasons) “Just move out and get a place of your own.” (when someone is young that’s difficult to do) “Getting a divorce is easy — it’s not so bad.” “Well, maybe you married someone like your parent.” “Maybe you married the wrong person.” “I don’t think xyz person cares.” “You’re saying you have an illness that makes you incredibly fatigued, confused, and you have pain. Maybe you need some mental health medication to help with that.” (the mental health meds didn’t help my friend with those symptoms) “Here, try this anti-seizure medication for your depression.” (patient tries it and gets in a car accident because of the side effects)…
